Fox News viewers were stunned.
An on-air blowup signaled a major change at the network.
A fight broke out at Fox News and you won’t believe who was on the losing end.
After Joe Biden’s first address to Congress, left-wing “Fox News Sunday” host Chris Wallace gushed with praise for Biden’s speech claiming it would be “popular” with the public.
“You know, I think this is going to be a popular speech with the American public. He offered a lot of stuff. Four trillion dollars will buy a lot of stuff, from millions of jobs to child care to community health centers, all kinds of stuff, community colleges,” Wallace stated.
Spoken like a true Democrat, Wallace claimed Joe Biden’s promise of trillions of dollars in “free” socialist goodies paid for by someone else would prove irresistible to the American people.
“And the other thing that’s pretty popular is, he said you’re not going to have to pay for it. Big corporations are going to pay for it, people making more than $400,000 are going to pay for it, but the vast majority of people watching tonight aren’t. So offering a lot of stuff and saying you aren’t going to have to pay for it is pretty popular,” Wallace added.
Newly-signed Fox News contributor and The Federalist co-founder Ben Domenech blasted Wallace for overhyping an irrelevant and insignificant speech.
Domenech took Wallace to task for blubbering about how “unifying” Joe Biden’s inaugural address was when in fact it set the stage for the most partisan president and congressional majority in recent American history, calling Biden’s calls for bipartisanship a “tissue of lies.”
“Last time I was on the air talking at the same time as Chris Wallace about a Joe Biden speech he waxed eloquent about how it was ‘so powerful and unifying,’” Domenech stated. “I don’t think that turned out to be true at all; I think it turned out to be a tissue of lies Republicans rejected. It’s something that did not lead to any bipartisanship. I expect the same results in this speech.
“It will be a political blip, immediately forgotten it won’t change the course of anything in Washington which is a now mono-partisan affair under Joe Biden,” Domenech concluded.
It turned out Domenech was correct.
Just 22 million viewers tuned in across all networks to watch Biden’s speech, which was about a 43 percent decline from Donald Trump’s first address to Congress.
And what the tiny audience saw did not inspire them.
A CNN poll after the speech found just 51 percent of viewers had a strongly positive view of Biden’s speech, down from the 57 percent strongly favorable response to Trump’s 2017 speech.
Wallace is an institution at Fox News.
For 25 years Wallace hosted “Fox News Sunday” and gave Fox the journalistic credibility to take on Fox’s left-wing corporate media rivals.
Ben Domenech is from the new school of conservative pundits that has no problem calling out the media’s liberal bias and BS to the faces of the so-called “reporters” that spew it.
And Domenech taking on Chris Wallace and coming out on top could signal a sea change at Fox as to what voices get more prominent platforms.
