Democrats are trying to keep secret just how bad things are looking for them.
Polls are predicting awful defeats.
A hidden piece of election data is devastating news for Democrats.
Republicans are gaining ground against Democrats just weeks before the midterm elections as President Joe Biden’s approval rating slips ever lower.
Registered voters favored Democrats over Republicans 45% to 43% a recent Politico/Morning Consult poll found. However, when looking at competitive races the numbers change.
In states that are highly competitive registered voters favored Republicans 55% to 34%, ABC’s FiveThirtyEight poll reported. But when reporting the poll they buried the lead.
“Among those living in congressional districts that are rated as at least somewhat competitive by ABC’s FiveThirtyEight (neither solid Republican nor solid Democratic), registered voters favor Republican candidates by a wide 55-34 percent — nearly as big as the Republican lead in solid GOP districts (+24 points). Democrats lead by 35 points in solid Democratic districts, pointing to a potential overvote where they’re most prevalent.” ABC News/Washington Post reported in their poll release.
If Republicans are leading in competitive districts by 21 percentage points, then there is a red wave coming and there could even be some unexpected Democrat losses.
RealClearPolitics (RPC) has categorized 32 House races as “toss-ups.” They’ve rated 22 districts as “lean Republican,” 17 as “likely Republican” and 179 as “safe Republican.” Seventeen districts were “lean Democratic,” 20 were “likely Democratic,” and 185 were “safe Democratic.”
Even if Democrats win every single “toss-up” Republicans would still maintain a majority of 218 seats.
Former White House press secretary Jen Psaki bluntly said that if the November midterm elections are a “referendum” on President Biden then Democrats will lose on Sunday on NBC News’ “Meet the Press.”
“If it is a referendum on the president, they will lose. And they know that. They also know that crime is a huge vulnerability for Democrats, I would say one of the biggest vulnerabilities,” Psaki said Sunday on NBC News’ “Meet the Press.”
She pointed out that in the Pennsylvania Senate race between Lt. Gov. John Fetterman, the Democratic candidate, and GOP celebrity heart surgeon Dr. Mehmet Oz, Republicans are running ads showing Fetterman’s record of being soft on crime.
“What’s been interesting to me is it’s always you follow the money, and where are people spending money. And in Pennsylvania, the Republicans have been spending millions of dollars on the air on crime ads against Fetterman because that’s where they see his vulnerability,” Psaki said.
Fetterman isn’t the only vulnerable Senate candidate.
Even in the heavily blue state of Washington Democratic Sen. Patty Murray only leads Republican Tiffany Smiley 48.7% to 46.5%, according to a Trafalgar Group poll and 4.8% of respondents were still undecided.
