Joe Biden’s poll numbers continue to sink.
Democrats grow more nervous by the day.
And this top Democrat delivered bad news to Joe Biden that may force an unthinkable change.
Susan Wild is a Democrat representing Pennsylvania’s Seventh Congressional District.
Wild flipped the seat blue in 2019 after Republican Pat Meehan held the seat for three terms but resigned in scandal.
In 2020, Wild won a narrow re-election campaign 52 to 48 over her Republican challenger.
But Wild has seen enough.
The two-term congresswoman released a statement blasting the Biden administration for a poorly executed withdrawal that she declared was “egregiously mishandled.”
Wild’s statement read:
It is clear to me that it was long past time to end the U.S. military presence in Afghanistan, and that we could not continue to put American servicemembers in danger for an unwinnable war. At the same time, it appears that the evacuation process has been egregiously mishandled.
“In order to move forward, our country will need to receive answers and accountability regarding the cascading failures that led us to this catastrophic moment, and I look forward to using my platform on the House Foreign Affairs Committee to secure answers from the Biden Administration about what went wrong. Our troops deserve nothing less than a complete and unvarnished account of the truth.
In the days and weeks ahead, I will continue working to ensure that we leave no one—American servicemember, American civilian, or Afghan ally—behind. That is the indefatigable spirit that drives our troops through every burden and every sacrifice, and our entire country must now strive to be worthy of that example.
Wild’s statement attracted corporate media attention because Wild represents the kind of swing district that make majorities.
Americans in these types of districts made Joe Biden president.
If members of Congress like Wild jump ship or look to break ranks it is not a good sign for Joe Biden’s political future.
Biden’s sinking poll numbers are not due entirely to Afghanistan.
Joe Biden’s self-inflicted border and inflation crises also took their toll on his popularity.
Biden’s feeble, disengaged and lethargic performance during this crisis – Biden tends to go into hiding and avoided taking questions as events on the ground in Afghanistan spiraled out of control – led many Americans to question his fitness for leadership.
Swing district Democrats breaking ranks with Biden over Afghanistan could spell the beginning of a movement to pressure Biden to step aside and let Kamala Harris serve as the Democrat nominee for president.
Joe Biden will be 81 yearsold in 2024 if he chooses to run for re-election.
It was hard for many Americans to see a frail Biden barely perform the duties of his office during the crisis in Afghanistan and think three years from now Joe Biden will hold up to the rigors of a presidential campaign and second term.
Congresswoman Wild may have just fired the first shot across the bow in a long campaign that ends with Joe Biden stepping aside.
