The corporate media does not like to talk about it, but there are serious differences in the Democrat Party.
That truth just exploded into the public’s view.
And that’s because Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez started a Democrat civil war with her refusal to do one thing.
Twenty-nine members of the Congressional Black Caucus and some of the “Squad” wrote a letter to Joe Biden urging him to reverse deportation orders for “black and brown” illegal aliens.
“We write to urge you to ensure that everyone unjustly deported has a meaningful opportunity to return home. Particularly in light of the immigration system’s harm to Black and brown immigrant communities, it is essential that you use the discretion at your disposal to establish an open, transparent, and reliable process for reevaluating and reversing wrongful removals,” the letter stated.
The Congressional Black Caucus’s letter argued that the federal government had discretion on law enforcement, and that the Biden administration should largely halt deportations.
“For decades, the U.S. government has exercised its power by enforcing U.S. civil immigration laws aggressively — initiating removals, detaining immigrants, and conducting deportation proceedings that lack even minimal due process. Now is the time to turn the resources and power of the U.S. government toward repairing these harms in the name of racial justice for Black and brown immigrants…
“…Just as criminal prosecution offices around the country have developed Conviction Integrity Units to review unjust prosecutorial decisions within their own offices, so too must the U.S. government create an internal accountability mechanism to review and reverse unjust deportations,” the letter added.
But what stood out about the letter – besides the call for open borders – was the fact that Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez did not sign the letter.
Ocasio-Cortez started the momentum for open borders in the Democrat Party with her call to abolish ICE.
Michigan Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib – who recently made waves over her calls to eliminate every federal agency that enforces immigration law – also did not sign the letter.
The question pundits asked is why would they not sign that letter?
There are no easy answers.
Ocasio-Cortez demonstrated that she will back down from true beliefs if she feels they will damage Democrats politically.
The New York congresswoman voted “present” on a two-billion-dollar funding bill for the Capitol Hill police when a “no” vote would have defeated the bill.
Ocasio-Cortez claims to support defunding the police, but when given a chance to put her principles into action, Ocasio-Cortez took a pass because it would have dealt Nancy Pelosi a humiliating defeat.
Similarly, in this situation Ocasio-Cortez could be looking to avoid creating a political headache for Joe Biden by ramping up pressure on Biden to open the borders at a time when polls show Americans give Joe Biden his lowest approval ratings on the issue of immigration.
