Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez finally pushed the envelope too far.
Now Ocasio-Cortez could lose everything.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez took the biggest risk of her life. This is how it backfired.
Democrats are trying to ram through a $1.2 trillion so-called “infrastructure” bill and a $3.5 trillion socialist welfare bill at the same time.
The fake infrastructure bill passed on a bipartisan vote even though it served as the initial down payment on the socialist Green New Deal.
But Democrats planned to pass the $3.5 trillion in socialist spending on a party line vote using the reconciliation bill process.
However, Democrats panicked that if the House passed the $1.2 trillion so-called infrastructure bill,Democrat senators representing red states and swing state congressmen will walk away from the larger $3.5 trillion bill to turn America into a socialist nation.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez demanded that Speaker Pelosi keep the two bills linked.
“Our caucus is strongest when it’s unified, and decoupling these bills, it starts to pit priorities against one another,” Ocasio-Cortez told reporters. “And that’s why I disagree with separating them.”
Ocasio-Cortez’s insistence on linking the two bills and not trimming the $3.5 trillion socialist spending spree did not sit well with West Virginia Democrat Joe Manchin.
Manchin released a statement slamming liberals like Ocasio-Cortez for proposing $3.5 trillion in new spending and declared his opposition to the crown jewel of the socialist agenda.
“Every Member of Congress has a solemn duty to vote for what they believe is best for the country and the American people, not their party,” Manchin’s statement read. “Respectfully, as I have said for months, I can’t support $3.5 trillion more in spending when we have already spent $5.4 trillion since last March. At some point, all of us, regardless of party must ask the simple question — how much is enough?”
Manchin added that pumping $3.5 trillion in new federal spending would only increase the inflationary pressure on the economy at a time when prices are rising at the fastest level in over a decade.
“What I have made clear to the President and Democratic leaders is that spending trillions more on new and expanded government programs, when we can’t even pay for the essential social programs, like Social Security and Medicare, is the definition of fiscal insanity. Suggesting that spending trillions more will not have an impact on inflation ignores the everyday reality that America’s families continue pay an unavoidable inflation tax,” Manchin added.
Manchin also dismissed the need for trillions of dollars in new welfare payments citing that the economy was not in a recession and the government was already paying too many people not to go back to work.
“Proposing a historic expansion of social programs while ignoring the fact we are not in a recession and that millions of jobs remain open will only feed a dysfunction that could weaken our economic recovery. This is the shared reality we all now face, and it is this reality that must shape the future decisions that we, as elected leaders, must make,” Manchin added.
Democrats need all 50 senators on board to pass a reconciliation package.
And Joe Manchin is not happy with Democrats threatening to tank the fake infrastructure bill that he negotiated to try and blackmail him into supporting the Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez socialist wish list.
