The 2024 election is not shaping up like anyone thought.
Some Democrats are growing nervous.
And now Joe Biden is going to hate why Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez slammed the panic button about 2024.
Democrats know Joe Biden is deeply unpopular.
The Real Clear Politics polling average pins his approval rating at a sickly 41 percent.
Biden’s low numbers are tied to the fact that the public largely views Biden as too old and senile for the job.
An ABC/Washington Post poll found that just 32 percent of Americans think the 80-year-old Biden has the mental sharpness for the job and only 33 percent believe Biden is physically capable of serving as president.
Despite the numbers that would spell doom for a sitting president Democrats figure that Biden could win again because voters in swing states view Donald Trump as a toxic figure in American politics and would crawl across glass to vote against Trump.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez warned Democrats that that was a faulty assumption.
In an interview with POLITICO Playbook Ocasio-Cortez cautioned that everyone on the left thought Biden would thrash Trump in a historic landslide in 2020 thanks to faulty polling data.
But Biden barely scraped through by the skin of his teeth winning the election by about 45,000 votes across Arizona, Georgia, and Wisconsin.
If the vote shifted even half-a-point right in the popular vote in these states, Trump would win in 2024.
Ocasio-Cortez told POLITICO that Democrats should not underestimate Trump due to Trump’s ability to drive his base to the polls.
“I don’t think we should ever be rooting for Trump in any situation. … 2020 was not a blowout. We have to really understand that as long as the Electoral College is in place, these elections are very often decided — sometimes by tens of thousands of votes — in a very small handful of states. … There are a lot of times that I think people overestimate Trump in certain areas. But they still continue to underestimate Trump, I think, in his ability to carry a message and carry a base,” Ocasio-Cortez explained.
Two new polls have Democrats sweating bullets.
Surveys from Economist/YouGov and Harvard-Harris show Donald Trump as the strongest GOP candidate as Trump leads Biden by two and seven points respectively.

The Real Clear Politics polling average also shows Trump leading Biden by 1.4 points.
By comparison, Real Clear Politics never showed Trump leading Biden in 2020 and the best Trump did was a four-point deficit.
Ocasio-Cortez sees these data and understands that Democrats face a difficult chore in trying to drag Biden to a second term.
