In just over a month, New York socialist Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has emerged as one of the leading faces of the new Democratic Party.
But the recently elected Congresswoman just ran into a major stumbling block as her Green New Deal proposal has been widely mocked as a joke.
And now, she couldn’t believe who just betrayed her.
New York Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez stunned the country when she unseated a powerful member of the Democratic establishment in last year’s primary elections.
But the newly-made member of Congress has since emerged as a laughingstock in Washington because of her proposed “Green New Deal”.
The resolution, which lacks any sort of specifics and reads like a parody of the Democratic platform, has been widely lambasted as a joke.
And some of her fiercest critics aren’t even Republicans.
The Daily Caller reports, “The bungled release of the much-touted Green New Deal (GND) could potentially torpedo a great opportunity to completely refashion how Democrats approach climate policy, according to one Obama-era official.”
Even Obama administration officials are criticizing Ocasio-Cortez’s proposal as not only ridiculous, but also detrimental to the Democratic Party.
“’ [The FAQ release] was a monumental screw up. It is putting the potential for a robust climate action at risk,’ one anonymous source within the Obama administration told Axios Wednesday morning,” stated the Daily Caller.
The official, who chose to remain anonymous, slammed Ocasio-Cortez for how her office handled the Green New Deal’s frequently asked questions piece.
One of the key points in that roll-out was a commitment to providing for those “unable or unwilling” to work.
The fact that a sitting Congresswoman was even interested in giving handouts to those “unwilling” to work speaks volumes.
And now, this Obama official is worried it could doom Democrats in 2020.
“The resolution itself did a great job of avoiding these controversies and finding a way to appeal to a broad spectrum of Democrats,” the person added. “But because the FAQs drove the narrative, McConnell sees it as a way to hurt vulnerable Democrats and embarrass the 2020 field.”
The rollout was such a disaster that Senator Mitch McConnell plans to actually hold a vote on the Green New Deal.
The fact that Democrats are worried about taking a vote on the deal suggests just how much of a train-wreck the resolution is.
Democrats are now caught in a lose-lose situation, vote for the resolution and show the American people they agree with this nonsense, or vote against it and risk the wrath of Ocasio-Cortez’s social media army.
It’s clear then why so many Democrats are slamming her resolution, it could put them in an impossible position next year.
Which explains why Democratic operatives are throwing Ocasio-Cortez under the bus.
That doesn’t make the sting any less hurtful for the New York Congresswoman however, who can still rely on a following that numbers in the millions to make her case for the radical legislative agenda she is pushing for.
