Socialist Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is hoping she can push the Democrat Party to the far left.
In many regards, she is succeeding, with more Democrats embracing the socialist label than ever before.
But that doesn’t mean much now that her own party just smacked her with unthinkable news.
Say what you want about Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s radical agenda, but at least it goes beyond “stop Trump,” unlike the rest of her party.
She wants to move the United States towards becoming a socialist country, offering free stuff to bring young people on board.
Among her more extreme positions are free college and socialized medicine.
But there is no issue she pushes more than her “Green New Deal.”
She is the foremost face of the extreme proposal that proponents say will stop “climate change” from ending the world.
The Green New Deal puts a mandate on making the U.S. entirely carbon neutral within 30 years.
To do that, she wants to do away with domestic air travel altogether in lieu of a high-speed rail system, among many other extreme changes.
And in doing this, she believes the government can revamp the economy through the creation of millions of jobs in green energy.
Of course, any reasonable person realizes this is an insane idea that can’t work.
But despite the naysayers, she continues to stand by it.
However, those in her own party aren’t as enthusiastic about the idea.
During a recent House Budget Committee hearing on climate change, Democrats made it clear that the Green New Deal isn’t on the table for discussion at all.
“I know Republicans put out notices that we were going to have a hearing on the Green New Deal,” Committee Chairman John Yarmuth said during the hearing.
“There are 11 committees that have jurisdiction over that piece of legislation; we’re not one of them.”
This decision perplexed Republicans on the committee, who feel as though the Green New Deal is very relevant when it comes to the Democrats discussions on climate change proposals.
Republican Rep. Bill Johnson questioned the decision directly to the chairman:
“Mr. Chairman, how can we have a discussion, a serious discussion, on climate change on this committee without addressing the primary plank of the platform that you and your colleagues have offered, the Green New Deal, to resolve climate change?”
But it’s clear why they don’t want to talk about the Green New Deal.
The Democrats know the proposal is extremely toxic for voters.
It is an extreme measure that will cost between 8 and 12 trillion dollars.
So it makes sense that the budget committee – which is run by Democrats – don’t want to discuss it.
That’s because they first need to instill fear in the American people with doomsday scare-tactics like the world will end in 12 years before they can convince taxpayers to fork over trillions of dollars for their “green energy” proposals.
