A major bombshell detonated in Washington.
But everything may not be what it seems.
And all hell broke loose when a big-name congressman was accused of this ugly sex crime.
Florida Congressman Matt Gaetz was one of Donald Trump’s most high-profile supporters in Congress.
Gaetz was a regular on Fox News and owned a knack for creating viral social media content that supported Trump and savaged Democrats and Never Trump RINOs.
But now The New York Times is reporting Gaetz is under investigation for possible sex trafficking charges for a relationship with a 17-year-old girl.
“Investigators are examining whether Mr. Gaetz violated federal sex trafficking laws, the people said. A variety of federal statutes make it illegal to induce someone under 18 to travel over state lines to engage in sex in exchange for money or something of value. The Justice Department regularly prosecutes such cases, and offenders often receive severe sentences,” the Times reported.
Gaetz fired back noting that in today’s environment, the Department of Justice routinely targets conservatives for political prosecution.
As further proof of his innocence, Gaetz said the Justice Department informed his lawyer that he was not the target of an investigation.
Mr. Gaetz said in an interview that his lawyers had been in touch with the Justice Department and that they were told he was the subject, not the target, of an investigation.
The Florida congressman also put out a series of tweets denying all allegations and claiming this was a smear that originated from an extortion scheme designed to bilk 25 million dollars from his family.
Gaetz wrote:
Over the past several weeks my family and I have been victims of an organized criminal extortion involving a former DOJ official seeking $25 million while threatening to smear my name. We have been cooperating with federal authorities in this matter and my father has even been wearing a wire at the FBI’s direction to catch these criminals. The planted leak to the FBI tonight was intended to thwart that investigation. No part of the allegations against me are true, and the people pushing these lies are targets of the ongoing extortion investigation. I demand the DOJ immediately release the tapes, made at their direction, which implicate their former colleague in crimes against me based on false allegations.
In a separate interview with Axios, Gaetz never denied that he paid for women he dated totravel with him.
“I have definitely, in my single days, provided for women I’ve dated. You know, I’ve paid for flights, for hotel rooms. I’ve been, you know, generous as a partner. I think someone is trying to make that look criminal when it is not,” Gaetz explained.
But Gaetz also once again said any insinuation that he had a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old girl was false.
