Joe Biden and his campaign thought they were on a cake walk to the White House.
Instead, the former Vice President and his campaign were scrambling into damage control mode.
And that’s because all hell broke loose when Trump caught Joe Biden in this compromising situation.
Joe Biden and his campaign handlers sought to beat back accusations Biden has dementia or suffers from cognitive decline by sending out Biden to pretend to be President.
Biden spoke in Wilmington, Delaware the day after Donald Trump delivered a prime-time Oval Office address on his administration’s response to the spread of the Chinese coronavirus.
The former Vice President read a laundry list of proposals for actions the federal government could take to combat any outbreak of this foreign virus.
Unfortunately they were all copied and pasted from Donald Trump’s address the previous night.
Trump campaign rapid response director Andrew Clark pointed out:
Biden’s big coronavirus “plan” was actually a plagiarized copy-and-paste job of what @realDonaldTrump has already done.
-Cutting copays for tests
-Working with private labs to boost testing
-Liquidity for small business. Biden talked (he’s good at it). Trump took action.
Biden recycling Trump’s solutions dredged up the memory of Biden’s first disastrous White House bid in 1988 back when Biden was 45 years old.
That campaign ended after it came out that Biden plagiarized his speeches from British Labor Party Leader Neil Kinnock.
Not only did Biden copy Trump, but the former Vice President raised even more questions about his mental fitness for office with a low energy performance.
Biden’s speech was delayed by 30 minutes and Biden took no questions from reporters after Biden finished reciting his lines off the teleprompters in front of him.
The Biden campaign carefully stage-manages every campaign event to keep the former Vice President from engaging in any unscripted moments with voters or the press.
Biden’s handlers worry day and night about what their mentally fading candidate will say if Biden is forced into situations where he deviates from the carefully calibrated scripts prepared for him.
After Biden delivered his speech where he play-acted the part of President, Biden hustled off the stage to avoid a repeat of the previous day’s disaster where Biden threatened criminal violence against an autoworker and appeared mentally confused making a series of false statements.
Biden also rarely speaks for more than ten minutes because the campaign wants to conserve the 77-year-old’s limited energy and prevent Biden’s cognitive decline from showing through.
The Biden campaign’s strategy is clearly “fake it until you make it.”
But there is little chance Biden can get away with only engaging in set pieces as his campaign for the next eight months.
Eventually Biden will have to stand on a debate stage with Donald Trump.
Biden’s team placing the former Vice President in protective bubble wrap at his speech responding to the Chinese coronavirus shows they understand the dangers for Biden that await him in the debates with Trump.
