Donald Trump’s political comeback marches on.
That is bad news for the establishment.
And all hell broke loose when Trump made this major announcement on Fox News.
In an interview with Sean Hannity, Donald Trump blasted Mitch McConnell for folding on his insistence that Democrats use the budget reconciliation process to raise the debt ceiling.
Trump called for Republicans to replace McConnell for bailing out Democrats.
“Mitch is not the guy, not the right guy, he’s not doing the job,” Trump stated. “He gave [Sen. Charles Schumer of New York and his Democrats] a lifeline – it’s more than a lifeline, he gave them so much time to figure out what to do because they were in a big bind; they were unable to do anything.”
Democrats were trying to figure out how to pass a multi-trillion-dollar socialist spending scheme through reconciliation – which avoids a filibuster – and McConnell stated that if Democrats wanted to spend trillions on socialism through the reconciliation process, they could raise the debt ceiling and take responsibility for the trillion in new debt in the reconciliation process as well.
Trump ripped McConnell for folding when he had all the leverage.
“He had the weapon and he was able to use it. It’s a shame,” Trump stated. “That’s not a good thing that happened today. He made a big mistake.”
Democrats do not want to use reconciliation because that means they have to raise the debt ceiling by a specific number.
Chuck Schumer fears that next year GOP attack ads will link the trillions in new spending with the trillions in new debt and hammer Democrat senators for their vote when control of the Senate is up for grabs.
McConnell also bailed out Democrats who may not have been able to put together a multi-trillion-dollar socialist spending package before the debt ceiling deadline.
Now McConnell bought Schumer the most valuable resource in Washington – time to get every Democrat together on the same page.
It was not just Trump and his fellow conservatives furious with McConnell.
Even RINOs like Lindsey Graham lashed out blasting McConnell for breaking his promise to Republican voters and showing the Democrats how easy it will be to push McConnell around when the debt ceiling fight resumes in December.
“Well, we screwed up,” Graham said in an interview with Sean Hannity. “For two months, we’ve promised to the American people that we would not help the Democratic Party raise the debt ceiling so they could spend $3.5 to $5 trillion through reconciliation. At the end of the day, we blinked. Two things have happened: We’ve let our people down, and we made the Democrats believe we are all talk and no action.
“At the end of the day, every Republican voted against raising the debt ceiling. Every Democratic senator voted for it. But we had a process in place. We made a promise for two months that we would make them do it without our help, and we folded. And I hate that,” Graham added.
