Democrats are gearing up for political war with the Supreme Court.
The left’s taken aim at Donald Trump’s three Supreme Court nominees.
Amy Coney Barrett had one response to Democrats that left Trump seeing red.
Justice Barrett cast the deciding vote in a ruling that allowed a Texas pro-life law that bans abortions after six weeks by allowing private citizens to file civil lawsuits against abortion mills to go into effect.
Since abortion on demand is the most prized value on the left, this ruling sent Democrats into a frenzy.
Speaking at an event after the ruling, Justice Barrett tried to lower the temperature claiming the Supreme Court did not consist of partisan hacks.
“My goal today is to convince you that this court is not comprised of a bunch of partisan hacks,” Barrett told a crowd at the University of Louisville. “Judicial philosophies are not the same as political parties.”
But remarks were of little comfort to conservatives.
Democrat presidents appoint Supreme Court justices they know will deliver ideological outcomes ad never rule against their party.
Republicans thought they were getting another Justice Scalia or Thomas in Amy Coney Barrett.
Instead, Barrett came off like a female version of center-left Chief Justice John Roberts who votes based on how The New York Times and other corporate media outlets will claim a decision will affect the court’s reputation.
“The media, along with hot takes on Twitter, report the results and decisions. … That makes the decision seem results-oriented,” Barrett added. “It leaves the reader to judge whether the court was right or wrong, based on whether she liked the results of the decision.”
Barrett referenced three of her decisions this year that infuriated conservatives – voting to uphold Obamacare, leaving a 1990 precedent in place that allows government to discriminate against the free exercise of religion, and refusing to hear the case of a Christian florist targeted for refusing to make arrangements for a homosexual wedding – and admitted that she did not like the outcome but felt the law dictated she vote a certain way.
“I don’t like the results of my decisions,” Barrett claimed, “It’s not my job to decide cases based on the outcome I want.”
Barrett’s comments appeared to serve as a response by renewed calls on the left to pack the Supreme Court following the Texas pro-life decision.
“Republicans promised to overturn Roe v Wade, and they have,” New York Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez wrote on Twitter. “Democrats can either abolish the filibuster and expand the court, or do nothing as millions of peoples’ bodies, rights, and lives are sacrificed for far-right minority rule.
“This shouldn’t be a difficult decision,” Ocasio-Cortez added.
Justice Barrett’s comments – designed to appease the left – will only add to the frustration on the part of Donald Trump and others that the conservative legal establishment sold the president and the party base a bill of goods on what they were getting in Amy Coney Barrett.
