Joe Biden’s failure to execute a safe and orderly withdrawal from Afghanistan attracted scorn across the political spectrum.
But no one saw it coming.
And a U.S. Army veteran stunned MSNBC viewers into silence with this takedown of Joe Biden.
Paul Rieckhoff served in Iraq as an infantry rifle platoon commander in 2003 and 2004.
After returning to the United States, Rieckhoff founded Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans for America.
Rieckhoff is a frequent guest on cable news and MSNBC’s Nicolle Wallace interviewed Rieckhoff on her “Deadline: White House” program following Joe Biden’s bizarre speech on Afghanistan where a ranting and raving Biden tried to sell to Americans that a mission that ended with 13 dead troops and Americans stranded in Afghanistan was actually a success.
Over the years MSNBC viewers settled into a steady diet of cranks, conspiracy theorists and party hacks denouncing conservatives and praising Democrats with the latest talking points whipped up by the DNC.
But on this day, MSNBC’s audience got a taste of a guest willing to tell them the emperor had no clothes.
Rieckhoff ripped Biden for gaslighting the American people about the catastrophe in Afghanistan by denying the reality of the failure Biden oversaw.
“This is not a good news story,” Rieckhoff told host Nicolle Wallace. “This is a very optimistic way of portraying what has been a devastatingly catastrophic couple of weeks after a terrible 20-year experience for all of us. So there’s a deliberate reframing here that really, frankly, rubs me the wrong way.”
Rieckhoff blasted Biden for boasting about how many unvetted Afghanistan refugees the administration flew to America to distract from the fact that the amateur hour withdrawal plan created the chaos that necessitated the massive airlift while at the time having no idea how many Americans the administration stranded behind enemy lines.
“You can’t just talk about how many you got out,” Rieckhoff added. “We have to talk about how many you left behind. And yes, it was fantastic that they got over 100,000 out. That is notable. But the situation was also so bad that we had to get out that many that quickly, we still don’t know how many may have been left behind.”
Rieckhoff laced into administration officials that bragged about there being no American casualties looking like fools days later when ISIS terrorists murdered 12 Marines and one Navy corpsman in a suicide bombing.
“There are plenty of people right now who are willing to spike the ball. And they’re the same people a week ago who said, ‘Look, there are no American casualties.’ This is a very dynamic situation and it’s still combat. The president said this is not a mission of combat, it’s a mission of mercy. It’s still a mission of combat whether we’re in the combat, or not or over the horizon or not, this is still very much combat for everyone who lives there,” Rieckhoff concluded.
MSNBC viewers are not used to absorbing commentary like that.
Hosts, guests and reporters usually offer North Korean-style praise for Democrats like Joe Biden.
Instead, Rieckhoff hit them with what he saw as the failures of Joe Biden while also calling out Biden for trying to mislead the public on the scope of the disaster.
