Barack Obama’s eight years in office saw one failure after another pile-up.
The extent of the disaster was covered up by Obama with the help of his allies in the media.
But that’s all coming to an end because Barack Obama just suffered the biggest humiliation of his life.
Donald Trump inherited Barack Obama’s disastrous war in Syria.
Obama – backed by RINO hawks like John McCain and Lindsey Graham – ordered U.S. intervention in the Syrian civil war.
Instead of fighting ISIS, the U.S. armed “rebels” allied with Al Qaeda in another effort at “nation building.”
This concept came about during the Clinton administration and it follows the belief that the U.S. military can be used to develop countries and build up Democratic institutions.
Obama wanted to oust Syrian strongman Bashar al-Assad and rebuild Syria is his image.
Instead of killing ISIS terrorists, Obama armed groups that fought alongside them.
It was a nightmare that enraged the American people.
Donald Trump campaigned on an America First foreign policy.
Trump pledged to end Obama’s war of nation building.
Then-candidate Trump argued these wars were a mistake and it was time to defend America’s border instead of foreign countries.
In his second year in office, Trump is making good on that promise.
Trump stunned the Washington swamp when he announced on Twitter that the U.S.-led coalition defeated ISIS in Syria and that U.S. troops could begin to come home.
“We have defeated ISIS in Syria, my only reason for being there during the Trump Presidency,” Trump declared.
Members of the foreign policy establishment shrieked that Trump was “abandoning” Syria to Iran.
But that was not the case.
A senior U.S. official told the Wall Street Journal that America had other tools at its disposal to prevent Iran from exerting control over Syria.
“We will continue to use tools of national power, including economic sanctions and diplomatic pressure, as leverage to press for the withdrawal of Iranian-backed forces,” the official told the Wall Street Journal. “Iran knows the U.S. stands ready to re-engage at all levels to defend American interests.”
The American people elected Donald Trump to make decisions like this.
They saw that Obama and all the other supposed “adults” in the room drove U.S. foreign policy into a ditch in the Middle East over the last 20 years.
Establishment-backed Presidents in both parties spent trillions of dollars in wars that lasted over 17 years and left little to show for it.
Obama’s folly in Syria was a perfect example.
When Trump took office, ISIS held enough ground to control a virtual caliphate.
ISIS inspired fighters launched terror attacks around the globe including in the United States.
But in two years Trump turned all that around.
The President appointed James “Mad Dog” Mattis the Secretary of Defense and devised new rules of engagement.
It took less than two years for those decisions to pay dividends.
And now American troops can come home and have their victory honored in the manner it deserves.
