Barack Obama thought his legacy was safe.
Establishment Republicans worked with Democrats to protect Obamacare and other disastrous aspects of Obama’s Presidency.
So no one expected one surprising thing to happen.
During the 2012 campaign, Obama imposed illegal executive amnesty on illegal aliens who entered America before they were 16.
Granting amnesty to so-called “DREAMers” was a political move to motivate his Hispanic voter base before his re-election.
But now conservative Attorney Generals in ten states are threatening to sue using the same tactics used to block the illegal executive amnesty Obama tried to grant five million illegal aliens back in 2014.
Now reports are surfacing that Donald Trump may take the ball out of the courts’ hands by ending the program himself.
The New York Times reports:
“Since attacking DACA on the campaign trail, President Trump has pledged to keep the program alive, calling recipients, also known as Dreamers, “absolutely incredible kids” who deserve compassion. But in recent days, key players in his administration have advised Mr. Trump to wind down the program, and his attorney general, Jeff Sessions, has informed him he considers it unconstitutional and cannot defend it in court, according to people familiar with the discussions who insisted on anonymity to describe private deliberations. While the White House has declined to comment on the fate of DACA, several officials and people briefed on the discussions now say the president is on the brink of ending it, although they note that Mr. Trump often changes his mind.
Mr. Trump has been pondering — and publicly agonizing over — what to do about the program since he took office. But discussions about it inside the White House took on new urgency after a group of conservative state attorneys general threatened to sue the Trump administration in federal court unless it begins to dismantle the program by Sept. 5.”
Trump supporters would be thrilled.
Americans fed up with an establishment status quo that put their interests last were the ones who elected Trump and stood by him despite the media and elites in both parties trying to destroy his Presidency.
Trump would be keeping his word to the people who put him in office by ending the program.
But Barack Obama would be furious.
Before Trump took office, Obama indicated that if Trump ended the program, it would be one thing that would cause him to break historical norms and criticize a President Trump.
The Los Angeles Times reports:
“President Obama said he would regard any effort to round up and deport Dreamers as an attack on American “core values” that would cause him to speak out publicly.
The so-called Dreamers, young people who were brought to the U.S. illegally as children, “for all practical purposes are American kids,” Obama said at what is expected to be the final news conference of his tenure.
“The notion that we would just arbitrarily or because of politics punish those kids, when they didn’t do something themselves … would merit my speaking out,” he said.”
But Obama’s executive order was lawless.
Constitutional separation of powers is also part of America’s core values.
And Obama violated it when he granted amnesty to the “DREAMers”.
Trump supporters elected him to undo Obama’s legacy.
And that includes restoring separation of powers and having an executive who acts lawfully under the Constitution.
