Many Americans believe Barack Obama is still the leader of the Democrat Party.
Obama appeared to confirm that fact.
And Barack Obama was caught on tape saying one thing Democrats will regret.
Obama appeared on a conference call with supporters of former Attorney General Eric Holder’s National Redistricting Committee.
Holder’s group’s goal is to neutralize Republicans’ advantage at the state House level and rig the redistricting process to put judges and so-called “nonpartisan” commissions in charge to draw maps that will lead to more Democrats winning elections.
During the call Obama hammered home the importance of the Democrats’ so-called “voting rights” bill that Republicans call the “Corrupt Politicians Act.”
This legislation will mandate universal mail-in voting and ballot harvesting in all 50 states.
The bill will also gut the ability of states to enforce voter ID laws while imposing universal voting registration requirements on every state that will sweep up some illegal aliens and eliminate criminal penalties for illegal aliens getting registered to vote.
Obama hyped up the false claim January 6 was an “insurrection” to add urgency to the Democrats’ need to pass this legislation.
“We can’t wait until the next election because if we have the same kinds of shenanigans that brought about Jan. 6, if we have that for a couple more election cycles, we’re going to have real problems in terms of our democracy long-term,” Obama added.
Republicans claim this bill will rig every election in the Democrats’ favor by imposing even looser voting restrictions than in 2020 and opening the door to widespread fraud.
Obama confirmed those fears claiming Democrats cannot win elections unless they tilt the rules in their favor.
Former President Obama also claimed Republican states around the country were passing so-called “voter suppression laws” – even though these laws won’t prevent one person from voting – so Democrats needed to pass a federal takeover of election procedure.
“If we don’t stop [GOP voting efforts] now, what we are going to see is more and more contested elections… we are going to see a breakdown of the basic agreement that has held this magnificent democratic experiment together all these years,” Obama said.
Republicans filibustered the legislation when Chuck Schumer originally brought the bill up for a vote.
Many thought that was the end of the line for the bill.
But Obama claimed he believed Schumer, Nancy Pelosi and Joe Biden would find a way to schedule another vote.
And Republicans worry Obama would not make such a promise unless he knew that Schumer, Pelosi, and Biden had a plan to round up the requisite votes.
“I have every confidence that Nancy, working in conjunction with Chuck Schumer and Joe Biden… are going to figure out a way in which there is an up and down vote on the For the People Act,” Obama added.
In this case, that means corralling all 50 Democrats around the plan to change the Senate rules and eliminate the legislative filibuster.
At least two Democrats publicly stated they would not nuke the filibuster.
But some Republicans are worried that may not stick if Obama and the activists he leads crank up the pressure to eliminate the legislative filibuster.
