Many pundits believe the Democrats are favored to defeat Donald Trump in the 2020 Presidential election.
But their confidence may be misplaced.
That’s because Brett Kavanaugh has this secret weapon that could be the key to Trump emerging victorious in 2020.
In the 2016 election, voters who put the Supreme Court as their number one issue broke decisively for Donald Trump.
Trump pledged to appoint conservative Justices who would uphold the Constitution as the Founders intended, whereas Hillary Clinton promised more left-wing political activists who would gut or eliminate the Second Amendment and uphold abortion-on-demand as a Constitutional “right.”
The February 2016 death of Justice Antonin Scalia put this vital contrast between the two candidates front-and-center and Americans overwhelmingly chose Trump on the issue.
With polls showing a tight 2020 re-election contest, the Trump team is looking to recreate the 2016 contrast on the courts.
And the President and his advisors plan to showcase Supreme Court Justices Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh as to why the American people should reward President Trump with another four years of judicial nominations.
Politico exclusively reports:
“Obviously that’s going to be one of the most lasting legacies of the Trump administration and the next 25 to 30 years,” said Republican Sen. John Cornyn, a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee. “I think it’ll remain a priority especially when our Democratic colleagues don’t seem too interested in legislating, particularly in the House.”
“President Trump totally gets it from the standpoint that is a transactional item needed to win support from the base,” said one close White House adviser.
During the 2016 primary campaign, a then-candidate Trump became very aware of how powerful the courts had become in mobilizing the conservative base.
Politico also exclusively reports:
“The passing of Justice Scalia sharpened his mind and caused him to think more systematically about the role of the courts and the importance of those issues to conservatives,” said the individual familiar with the White House’s process. “He saw the way people reacted to the issue and saw it as an important way of building a strong political coalition.”
But it’s not just Supreme Court Justices Kavanaugh and Gorsuch that President Trump will sell as evidence that he delivered on his promise.
President Trump saw over 100 judges confirmed to every level of the judiciary in his first three years in office—an all-time record high.
In fact, Daniel Goldberg, who serves as the legal director for the left-wing judicial activist group Alliance for Justice, whined to Politico that Republicans were confirming too many judges too quickly.
“I am not sure how they can speed it up anymore,” said Goldberg.
“Mitch McConnell has already eroded almost every rule and norm to expedite Trump’s far-right judges with as little transparency and vetting as possible.”
Democrats have been convinced by the fake news media that the country has turned against the President and is ready to vote him out of office in 2020.
But as 2016 showed, President Trump has an ace up his sleeve to drive voter turnout – the fight for the courts.
