Trump supporters got some bad news.
Everyone geared up for a major fight that could derail Joe Biden’s entire agenda.
And Chuck Schumer celebrated a Republican surrender that will make your blood boil.
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell promised a fight to the bitter end on raising the debt ceiling.
McConnell promised that Republicans would filibuster the debt ceiling increase forcing Democrats to use the reconciliation process to boost the national debt by trillions of dollars.
Republicans all bought into this strategy believing it was the best chance to kill Joe Biden’s nearly five-trillion-dollar socialist spending bill.
But at the moment of truth McConnell folded his hand and rounded up enough Republican votes to gut the filibuster to allow Democrats to raise the debt ceiling.
Chuck Schumer crowed about Republicans putting their fingerprints all over a $2.5 trillion increase in the national debt – the largest debt ceiling increase in history.
“This is about paying debt accumulated by both parties, so I’m pleased Republicans and Democrats came together,” Schumer boasted.
“Responsible governing has won on this exceedingly important issue,” Schumer added, “The American people can breathe easy and rest assured there will not be a default.”
Senator Minority Leader McConnell tried to gaslight the public into ignoring that McConnell and other establishment Republicans facilitated this debt ceiling increase by providing the votes for Democrats to make it possible.
“Later today, every Senate Democrat is going to vote on party lines to raise our nation’s debt limit by trillions of dollars,” McConnell stated. “If they jam through another reckless taxing and spending spree, this massive debt increase will just be the beginning.”
A Congressional Budget Office report found that Biden’s socialist spending bill would add $3 trillion to the national debt if every program is extended for ten years.
Republicans under Mitch McConnell never fight to cut welfare spending so anyone assuming that Congress will eventually vote to make these new socialist entitlement programs permanent probably guesses correctly.
Conservatives were furious at McConnell for this cave into Schumer and the Democrats on raising the debt ceiling.
Even RINOs like Lindsey Graham were upset with McConnell for lying to GOP voters about drawing a line in the sand on the debt ceiling while never meaning to follow through.
“What I’m worried about is that for four months the Republican Senate said we would not lift a finger to help the Democrats raise the debt ceiling. We would make them use reconciliation,” Graham said in an interview on “Fox News Sunday.” “At the end, we did not make them use reconciliation, which changed the rules of the Senate in a House bill. I don’t like that a lot. … What we did is promised one thing and delivered another.”
McConnell waving the white flag on the debt ceiling will depress the conservative base heading into 2022 as the rank-and-file see McConnell handing Joe Biden victory after victory by helping Democrats muscle their far-left agenda through Congress.
And that could impact the GOP’s fortunes.
