Democrats led by Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez geared up for war with the Supreme Court.
That turned out to be a big mistake.
And Clarence Thomas crushed Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez with this monster piece of bad news.
For years Democrats appointed activist judges that would do the dirty work left-wing elected officials could not accomplish through the legislative process.
Abortion and homosexual marriage became the law of the land in America – not because of any single piece of legislation – due to the fact that unelected justices imposed their will and policy preferences on the rest of America.
In a speech at Notre Dame, Thomas warned that the Supreme Court acting like an unaccountable – because of lifetime appointments – super legislature was “asking for trouble.”
“When we begin to venture into the legislative or executive branch lanes, those of us, particularly in the federal judiciary with lifetime appointments, are asking for trouble,” said Thomas, expressing his apprehension.
Thomas added that activist judges taking on the role of elected officials made the Supreme Court the most “dangerous” branch of government in America.
“The court was thought to be the least dangerous branch and we may have become the most dangerous.”
Thomas then pivoted to implicitly slamming liberals like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez calling for court-packing when decisions do not go their way.
“We have lost the capacity to not allow others to manipulate our institutions when we don’t get the outcomes that we like,” Thomas stated.
Thomas argued that the institution of the Supreme Court was bigger than any one case.
“It’s not about winning and losing at the court. It is about the entire country and the idea of this country,” Thomas added.
Thomas warned that critics demanding court-packing every time they lose a case would destroy the Supreme Court as an institution and weaken America.
“I think we should be careful destroying our institutions because they don’t give us what we want when we want it,” Thomas continued. “I think we should be really, really careful.”
Thomas’ remarks served as a rebuttal to Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez demanding Democrats pack the Supreme Court following the justices issuing a five to four ruling allowing a Texaslaw that banned abortion after six weeks to take effect.
“Republicans promised to overturn Roe v Wade, and they have,” Ocasio-Cortez wrote on Twitter following the Texas pro-life decision. “Democrats can either abolish the filibuster and expand the court, or do nothing as millions of peoples’ bodies, rights, and lives are sacrificed for far-right minority rule.
“This shouldn’t be a difficult decision,” Ocasio-Cortez exclaimed.
Even liberal Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer agrees with Thomas in opposing Ocasio-Cortez’s court-packing scheme warning that Republicans would retaliate once they won back power.
For now, Ocasio-Cortez’s idea of packing the Supreme Court with liberal justices appears dead in the water thanks to broad opposition across the country as evidenced by a liberal like Justice Breyer and a conservative uniting in opposition to Ocasio-Cortez’s autocratic court-packing scheme.
