Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats could not believe what they were seeing.
Their best-laid plans just blew up in their faces.
And CNN hit Nancy Pelosi with some bad news that means she will lose her job.
When Joe Biden walked into the House of Representatives to deliver his first State of the Union address, no president in recent memory entered the chamber in such a dramatically weakened position.
An ABC/Washington Post poll found a record-low 37 percent of Americans approved of Biden’s job as president.
A USA Today/Suffolk survey showed 51 percent of Americans believed the country’s economy was in a recession or a depression.
Both of those polling results suggest Democrats are on track for a landslide defeat in the midterm elections and to lose control of both houses of Congress.
With that backdrop of sickly polling numbers, Joe Biden tried to reset his presidency with his State of the Union speech and launch Democrats on a trajectory towards victory in November.
But after a desultory speech – where a clearly senile Biden slurred his words, lost his train of thought, and could not properly read the teleprompter – the early returns suggested Biden bellyflopped.
CNN reported Biden’s State of the Union speech received the lowest percentage of viewers rating the speech as “strongly positive” since George W. Bush in 2007.
That was especially troublesome since State of the Union speeches attract partisan audiences and this year’s audience had 11 percent more Democrats than Republicans.
Mediaite reports:
Just 41% of those who watched President Joe Biden’s State of the Union address on Tuesday had a “very positive” reaction to the speech – the lowest in 15 years to CNN’s instant post-State of the Union poll.
In the CNN poll following the 2007 State of the Union address delivered by George W. Bush, 41% of respondents reported having a “very positive” reaction, while 37% had a “somewhat positive” reaction.
The poll, which CNN’s David Chalian said consisted of about 11 points more Democratic among respondents, also showed 29% of viewers reacting to the speech in a “somewhat positive” fashion, and 29% in a “negative” fashion.
CNN reported why Biden’s speech fell flat.
Crime and inflation are two of the biggest issues facing America, and yet with a partisan Democrat audience CNN found just “47% said he sufficiently addressed inflation and 46% said the president did enough to address violent crime.”
Joe Biden’s speech failed to land with the public because Biden refused to change course from the far-left agenda Biden pursued from his first day in office.
With just 37 percent of Americans approving of his job, the public is sending a clear signal they want Biden to chart a new path forward.
Instead, Biden delivered the same old.
And it did not inspire even his heavily Democratic audience to cheer the speech.
