Cory Booker recently became one of the latest candidates to announce a run for president.
But the New Jersey Senator may have just tanked his campaign in a major way.
What he just said could guarantee his defeat in either the primary or the general.
Cory Booker threw his hat into the ring to run for president this past month.
But the New Jersey Senator and presidential hopeful has since had a rocky road.
Already facing a crowded primary field that has a record setting number of major candidates, Booker is struggling to break out of the pack and make a name for himself.
He may have finally figured out how to do just that, but for all the wrong reasons.
Booker decided to insinuate that the days of people being able to eat meat are “numbered”.
What’s worse, the New Jersey Senator appears to be focused on wanting to end meat eating and turn the rest of the country into vegetarians in the same mold as himself.
If it weren’t for the fact that Booker more or less said as much himself, it would be almost impossible to believe.
But the Daily Caller reports, “New Jersey Democratic Sen. Cory Booker is not only a potential 2020 presidential candidate; he’s a vegan who says the world “can’t sustain” people eating meat.”
Booker had previously told the vegetarian magazine VegNews that he became a vegetarian in 1992 when, after a few days of avoiding meat, he said, “Oh my gosh, I will never go back to eating meat.” He made the decision to become a vegan in 2014.
“I remember my last non-vegan meal was Election Day, November 2014,” Booker told the vegan news source.
If Booker actually won the 2020 election, he would become the first vegan president in history.
But he may never get that chance.
“The progressive senator doesn’t think veganism is just appropriate for his private life; he’d like everyone to embrace the diet because he believes the world can’t keep providing enough beef and pork to satisfy meat cravings,” adds the Daily Caller.
Booker hasn’t exactly been quiet about his desire to eliminate meat eating either.
“You see the planet earth moving towards what is the Standard American Diet,” Booker told VegNews. “We’ve seen this massive increase in consumption of meat produced by the industrial animal agriculture industry.”
“The tragic reality is this planet simply can’t sustain billions of people consuming industrially produced animal agriculture because of environmental impact. It’s just not possible, as China, as Africa move toward consuming meat the same way America does because we just don’t have enough land,” he said.
Of course, this is a quick way to wreck Booker’s career.
Wanting to see meat eating become a thing of the past isn’t the best way to win over votes.
The vast majority of Americans eat meat, and they have no intentions of stopping anytime soon.
Alienating those voters, who drastically outnumber vegans and vegetarians, is a recipe for electoral disaster.
Do you think Booker will become president? Or will he lose in either the primaries or to President Trump?
