Even Democratic safe states aren’t looking good for them anymore.
The midterm polls aren’t showing results they expected.
Democrats are petrified that this deep blue state could be turning completely red.
Back in the 2020 election President Joe Biden won Washington State by almost 20 points, the largest winning margin for a presidential candidate of any party since 1964.
In just two years Biden has been such a disaster that polls are now showing that 30-year incumbent Sen. Patty Murray (D-WA) is in danger of losing her seat to her Republican challenger Tiffany Smiley.
Murray won her last re-election with a very comfortable 59% of the vote in 2016 but she’s far from comfortable now.
The Washington State Senate race is now a toss-up, according to RealClearPolitics’ projections.
“The race for U.S. Senate in Washington is now tied,” Moore Information Group said in a press release announcing the results. “Tiffany Smiley has caught up to 30-year incumbent Senator Patty Murray and the race is now dead even at 46 percent Smiley and 46 percent Murray, eliminating the four percent advantage enjoyed by Murray in September (48 to 44 percent).”
The poll also found that Murray’s popularity has been steadily declining. In September, the survey found Murray’s favorability rating was 44% favorable and 45% unfavorable; by October, that rating had gone down from 45% favorable to 48% unfavorable.
Smiley on the other hand has a net favorability rating of 3 points, 44% of those surveyed holding a favorable opinion of her while 41% held unfavorable. That number has considerably risen from last month when her favorable rating was 37%-34%.
It could be up to the 8% of undecided voters, but 80% of them said the country was off on the “wrong track,” which could be a huge advantage to Smiley.
“In wave election years, the national political environment is often the key to flipping Senate seats and right now, the Washington Senate race has become ground zero for a wave election upset,” the press release stated.
A poll conducted by The Trafalgar Group and released on Saturday found similar results after responses from more than 1,200 likely voters in Washington State.
It found that 49.4% of voters support Murray, while 48.2% are in favor of Smiley, which is well within the 2.9% margin of error.
Tiffany Smiley is a former triage nurse who started having an interest in politics advocating for her husband who was blinded by a suicide bomber in Iraq and for other veterans who’s focused her message on how she will “rein in the out-of-control spending” causing inflation, increasing energy production and securing the southern border.
Murray has made abortion rights a centerpiece of her campaign.
