Democrats got some bad news.
It came from one of the least likely sources.
And now Democrats shook their heads in disbelief at what Barack Obama just said on TV.
As part of his never-ending media tour Barack Obama is back playing the “I know better than everyone else” political pundit.
The latest lie from Barack Obama was his falsehood that the GOP is a minority party in America and only undemocratic structural advantages such as the Senate and the Electoral College prevent Democrats from wielding complete power in America.
Obama claimed that the 60 percent of Americans that Democrats spoke to represented the “reality-based” universe.
“In fact, the Republican Party is the minority party in this country. The only reason that it doesn’t look like the majority party is because of structures like the U.S. Senate and the Electoral College that don’t render them the majority party. So they have certain built-in advantages around power given their population distribution and how our government works. But the truth of the matter is that 60 percent of the people are occupying what I would consider a more reality-based universe, and those are the constituents we’re speaking to, and that is a more diverse group,” Obama claimed.
This—of course—is a lie.
Republicans have held the Presidency in 32 of the 56 years.
The GOP also has held congressional majorities in more years than not since 1994.
And entering 2021, Republicans will hold 27 out of 50 governors’ mansions and has unified control of government in 24 states whereas Democrats will have the governor and majority in the state legislature in just 15 states.
That is the political posture of a governing party that can compete across the country.
Obama also fell back on a ridiculous stereotype that Republicans are all just old, white men.
“I describe in the book the first time I go to the Republican House caucus to speak to them. I think there was an Asian guy or gal and maybe a couple of Hispanics, and that was it. It is much more homogeneous, which means that, yes, they have to do less work. But it also means that they can talk to themselves, and as a consequence of the way our democracy, our republic is structured, they don’t have to appeal to as broad of a base,” Obama added.
In the 2020 election Republicans won all 27 of the most contested elections and every Republican that ousted an incumbent Democrat was a woman, a minority or a veteran.
The GOP also elected a record number of women in 2020.
In point of fact, if anyone exists outside of reality and lives in a fantasy land, it is Democrats—led by Barack Obama—who continue to deny the political realignment in the country and in the Republican Party.
