Donald Trump was counting on the Supreme Court being his firewall in the 2020 election.
His nominations of Brett Kavanaugh and Neil Gorsuch tipped the balance of power on the Supreme Court toward conservatives.
And Donald Trump just got hit with some bad news about the Supreme Court.
Exit polls from the 2016 election showed the Supreme Court proved to be a decisive issue for Donald Trump.
Republicans exercised the Biden rule and did not hold a vote on Barack Obama’s nominee to fill Antonin Scalia’s seat.
Senate Republicans declared they would let the voters pick who would make that crucial decision.
Donald Trump emerged victorious in the 2016 election over Hillary Clinton in large part because voters that placed Supreme Court nominations as their top issue swing decisively toward Trump by a 56 to 41 percent margin.
The Supreme Court turned into a litmus test issue after the Warren Court began to impose a radical liberal social agenda in the 1960s.
This culminated with the disastrous 1973 Roe v. Wade decision that legalized abortion in America and led to abortion mills killing one million babies per year.
With the 2020 election within spitting distance, many on the left are trying to recreate the energy conservative voters put into voting on the Supreme Court on their own side.
Demand Justice is the 501c(4) group founded by Hillary Clinton campaign alum Brian Fallon and funded in part by George Soros.
As part of a voter mobilization effort on the left ahead of the 2020 contest, Demand Justice is fighting a two-front war on Donald Trump.
First, Demand Justice is circulating an online petition to grow their supporter list and to pressure the Democrat candidates running for President to embrace a court-packing scheme to add two to six new liberal Supreme Court justices to the bench should they win the election.
The petition reads:
The number of justices is not established in the Constitution — in fact, we’ve changed the number of justices seven times throughout our history.
“We need every Democrat to join us. Sign the petition and tell Democrats to support adding seats to the Supreme Court today.”
Demand Justice also sought to copy Donald Trump’s wildly successful campaign ploy of releasing a shortlist of potential Supreme Court nominees.
In 2016 Evangelical Christians turned out in record numbers for Donald Trump after the Trump campaign put out a list of conservative justices that Trump pledged to choose from should he win the Presidency.
Demand Justice released a list of 32 of the most rabidly anti-American, anti-gun, pro-abortion judicial nominees in the hopes that Democrat voters will mobilize to vote on this issue.
One shortlist member – Judge Carlton Wayne Reeves – compared Donald Trump to segregationist former Alabama Governor George Wallace.
Another shortlist selection is Fordham University School of Law professor Zephyr Teachout who called for abolishing ICE.
For years conservatives held the advantage on voting intensity over Supreme Court nominations.
The President was counting on the fact that he made good on his promise to shift the court to the right to inspire the same level of voter turnout among Evangelical Christians and other key groups.
But the left is trying to copy his playbook in an effort to use the President’s successful campaign tactics against him.
