Former Attorney General William Barr was once one of Donald Trump’s most trusted advisors.
But then it all changed.
Donald Trump revealed something about William Barr that no one expected.
Attorney General Barr resigned just before Christmas 2020 after a falling out with President Trump.
Barr infuriated President Trump by saying Barr saw no evidence of widespread fraud in the 2020 election.
Prior to the election, Barr raised concerns about mail-invoting telling CNN it held the possibility of opening the election to fraud.
In an interview with far-left activists Philip Rucker and Carol Leonnig for their book “I Alone Can Fix It,” Trump told Rucker and Leonnig that Barr changed over the course of time running the Justice Department.
“Bill Barr changed a lot,” Trump told Rucker and Leonnig. “He changed drastically, and in my opinion, he changed because of the media. The media is brilliant. I give them credit. I get it better than anybody that’s ever lived. Bill Barr came in because he was really legitimately incensed at what they were doing to me and the presidency on the Mueller hoax. He did a good job on the Russian hoax, right? And then as time went by, and what I should have done is said, ‘Bill, thank you very much. Great job.’”
Trump explained that he believed Barr rejected his claims of election fraud to quiet critics in the Department of Justice that leaked to reporters attacks that Barr served as Trump’s personal lawyer and undermined the Justice Department’s mission.
Trump added that the Justice Department “is loaded up with radical left, and Bill Barr was being portrayed as a puppet of mine. They said he’s my ‘personal lawyer,’ ‘he’ll do anything,’ and I said, ‘Here we go…’ He got more and more difficult, and I knew it. You know why? Because he’s a human being. Because that’s the way it works,” Trump added.
Trump stated that by the end of Barr’s tenure, Barr did not like Trump personally and Trump believed that personal animus contributed to Attorney General Barr undercutting Trump’s claims of voter fraud in the 2020 election.
“Barr disliked me at the end, in my opinion, and that’s why he made the statement about the election, because he did not know,” Trump continued. “And I like Bill Barr, just so you know. I think he started off as a great patriot, but I don’t believe he finished that way.”
Trump also expressed his regret that Attorney General Barr did not bring criminal charges against disgraced former FBI officials James Comey and Andrew McCabe.
When Trump nominated Barr to serve as Attorney General, Trump and many of his supporters took heart when Barr attacked the Russian collusion investigation as “spying.”
But Trump lost all patience with Barr when Barr broke with Trump on the election.
