Adam Schiff and the Democrats finally struck gold on their impeachment witch hunt to remove President Trump from office.
After weeks of pressuring Trump allies to betray the President, Schiff and his cronies received the word they were hoping to hear.
And Donald Trump was floored by the news that this ally sold him out to Adam Schiff on impeachment.
From day one of the phony Ukraine scandal, fake news reporters and Democrats viewed John Bolton as the star witness that would bury Donald Trump once and for all.
Bolton served as the President’s National Security Advisor until the President fired Bolton over policy differences.
John Bolton was a Bush-era war hawk that favored endless wars supported by both Bush and Hillary Clinton while the American people elected Trump to put “America First” and end these conflicts.
Bolton’s acolytes on the National Security Council such as Fiona Hill provided exactly the type of testimony the press wanted to hear.
Hill claimed Bolton wanted no part of “whatever drug deal” Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani and acting chief of staff Mick Mulvaney supposedly dreamed up on Ukraine.
But Bolton’s testimony would provide the one thing the Democrats lacked – an account from someone that actually spoke to the President.
No matter how much the fake news tried to hype up the testimony of star witnesses such as Ukrainian Ambassador Bill Taylor or European Union Ambassador Gordon Sondland, their testimonies were all guesses and third and fourth hand hearsay and gossip.
Bolton actually spoke to the President and Democrats dreamed he could fill in the blanks.
But the administration declared current and former officials had blanket immunity from testifying and could ignore subpoenas.
Bolton – however – put word out to Washington Post reporters Carol Leonnig and Tom Hamburger that if a Judge ruled that did not apply, he would comply with the Democrats’ subpoena and testify.
The Washington Post reported that, “Former national security adviser John Bolton is willing to defy the White House and testify in the House impeachment inquiry about his alarm at the Ukraine pressure campaign if a federal court clears the way, according to people familiar with his views.”
Bolton’s lawyers – most likely the sources for this story – also dangled out the possibility that Bolton could provide the smoking gun against Trump.
The Post also reported that “His testimony is expected to be ‘damaging’ to Trump, according to a person familiar with the matter.”
“While other officials have complied with requests to participate in the impeachment inquiry without such a judicial order, Bolton is not willing to do so, the people said,” the Post reported.
The Post also exclusively reported that the Democrats on the House Intelligence Committee prepared to move on without Bolton.
Leonnig and Hamburger reported:
A House Intelligence Committee official said that Bolton’s attorney informed the committee that Bolton would go to court if he were subpoenaed.
“We regret Mr. Bolton’s decision not to appear voluntarily, but we have no interest in allowing the administration to play rope-a-dope with us in the courts for months,” said the official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because of the ongoing investigation. “Rather, the White House instruction that he not appear will add to the evidence of the president’s obstruction of Congress.”
Waiting for a court to decide the constitutional issues preventing Bolton from testifying could prolong the Democrats’ impeachment timeline.
Nancy Pelosi and other top party leaders want a vote on articles of impeachment by Christmas so a Senate trial can be over and done with and not interfere with the February 3 Iowa caucuses.
