Dr. Anthony Fauci is out of control.
Fauci seized near-unlimited power during the COVID pandemic.
And now Dr. Fauci went on TV and threatened to commit this criminal act.
Dr. Fauci announced he would step down in November after previously claiming he would stay on until the end of Joe Biden’s term in 2024.
Fauci’s reversal struck everyone as an obvious acknowledgment that Republicans were likely to win Congress in November and that a new GOP majority would hold Fauci accountable for his lies, failures, and incompetence.
Republicans promised to grill Fauci over his role in funding gain-of-function research at the Wuhan Institute of Virology, Fauci’s role in the origins of COVID, and Fauci’s lies about the effectiveness of shutdowns, masks, and vaccines.
In an interview on CNN Fauci offered up an unconvincing explanation that his retirement had nothing to do with a GOP majority putting his shady conduct and deceit under a microscope.
“Really, none at all. Not even a slight amount. I have nothing to hide. And I can defend everything I’ve done. So that doesn’t phase me or bother me. My decisions of stepping down go back well over a year,” Fauci told host Kaitlan Collins.
Fauci added that it was just the luck of timing that he announced his retirement just ahead of a potential Republican majority taking over.
“I had decided I might want to step down at the end of the Trump administration, but when President Biden was elected, one of the first things he did was to ask me to join and be his chief medical adviser, which I took as a great honor and I enthusiastically accepted. I thought that was going to last about a year that we would be having COVID behind us after a year. But obviously painfully so, that’s not the case,” Fauci continued. “But having thought about that… I think we’re in a relatively good place with regard to COVID, if we utilize and implement the interventions that we have, and I just felt it was the right time, particularly since I’m still healthy and energetic and passionate about what I want to do, and I think that’s the time to move on to the next phase.”
But then Fauci went off the rails.
Fauci threatened to defy a GOP subpoena to testify before Congress claiming he would only appear for legitimate oversight and not what Fauci falsely claimed was “character assassination.”
“Sure, I certainly would consider that. But you got to remember, I believe oversight is a very important part of government structure. And I welcome it and can be productive. But what has happened up until now is more of a character assassination than it is oversight,” Dr. Fauci declared. “So, sure, I would be happy to cooperate, so long as we make it something that says dignified oversight, which it should be. And not just bringing up ridiculous things and attacking my character. That’s not oversight.”
The Biden administration arrested and tried to put Trump advisors Peter Navarro and Steve Bannon in jail on contempt of Congress charges after the two refused to testify before the January 6 committee on the grounds that President Trump asserted executive privilege.
Should Dr. Fauci refuse to honor a subpoena by a Republican-run Congress the GOP majority will vote on a criminal referral for contempt of Congress against Dr. Fauci.
And it will be up to the Biden administration and Attorney General Merrick Garland to prove to the nation that they will enforce the laws equally.
