Fox News Channel actually went there.
The escalating fight over the network firing Tucker Carlson is getting ugly.
But now Fox News’s unforgivable plan to destroy Tucker Carlson just blew up in their face.
After Fox News fired Tucker Carlson the former top-rated anchor hired powerhouse attorney Bryan Freedman — who secured Megyn Kelly’s exit from NBC which paid Kelly the remaining $30 million on her contract — to represent him in negotiations to free himself from Fox News and get back on the air in some form as quickly as possible.
Fox News responded by signaling that it intends to fight dirty.
Shortly after the news broke that Carlson hired Freedman a story appeared in The New York Times about how one day before Fox News was set to go to trial in Dominion’s $1.6 billion defamation suit, executives discovered text messages Carlson sent in private conversations which used crude language.
The New York Times reported:
The day before Dominion Voting Systems’ defamation trial against Fox News was set to begin in a Delaware courthouse, the Fox board of directors and top executives made a startling discovery that helped lead to the breaking point between the network and Tucker Carlson, one of its top stars.
Private messages sent by Mr. Carlson that had been redacted in legal filings showed him making highly offensive and crude remarks that went beyond the inflammatory, often racist comments of his prime-time show and anything disclosed in the lead-up to the trial.
Fox tried to paint the picture of a vulgar tyrant insulting his superiors while also feeding the fake news media lies about Carlson being a racist.
These messages — the Times reported — represented the final straw that caused Fox News to cut ties with Carlson.
Fox also planted stories in the mainstream media about former producer Abby Grossberg suing Fox News claiming Carlson created a hostile work environment where she encountered sexism.
Grossberg’s “evidence” was a picture in Carlson’s news pod that showed Nancy Pelosi in a bathing suit.
This plan by Fox News to use its allies in the corporate media backfired immediately.
Conservative operative Greg Price reported in a Substack article that a source with firsthand knowledge debunked both claims by Fox News.
Price wrote that Fox News executives were aware of the text messages from Carlson for over a year.
“A person with firsthand knowledge tells me that senior Fox executives knew about these texts since at least last year. Another person with knowledge of the litigation backs this up, telling me that Fox and their lawyers would have been the ones in charge of producing communications for Dominion before Tucker did his deposition last August,” Price reported.
Price also reported that Grossberg never once actually met Carlson as she worked out of New York and Carlson filmed his shows from his studios at his homes in Florida and Maine.
“Grossberg never once met Tucker Carlson during her entire time working for his show. She worked out of the Fox offices in New York City, while Tucker has been consistently working out of his homes in Florida and Maine,” Price continued.
Fox knows Carlson hired big legal guns to stop Fox News from silencing him throughout the 2024 election.
Fox also knows they are facing massive viewer backlash as ratings plunged 50 percent in Carlson’s timeslot.
And so Fox News is fighting for keeps against Carlson by trying to smear him in the press.
