Fox News Channel is officially at war with Donald Trump.
This could be the biggest story of the 2024 election.
And now Fox News just banned Donald Trump for the most insane reason.
Fox News is the one network that will give Republican presidential candidates a fair hearing.
And GOP presidential hopefuls know appearing on Fox is the one place they are guaranteed to reach millions of conservatives with their message without having to purchase expensive TV and digital ads.
Donald Trump was the first candidate into the 2024 race.
But Trump hasn’t appeared on Fox News for an interview since September.
Outside of briefly covering Trump’s announcement speech last November Fox devoted no airtime to Trump.
When Trump traveled to East Palestine to shame Joe Biden for ignoring the train derailment poisoning the air and water with toxic chemicals Fox News completely ignored Trump’s trip.
This was a far cry from the 2016 campaign and Trump’s presidency when Fox News covered Trump’s every move wall-to-wall.
But Semafor reported that sources close to the Trump campaign understand that Fox News put a “soft ban” on covering Trump.
“Everyone knows that there’s this ‘soft ban’ or ‘silent ban,’” a source close to Trump told Semafor. “It’s certainly — however you want to say, quiet ban, soft ban, whatever it is — indicative of how the Murdochs feel about Trump in this particular moment.”
After a disappointing midterm election where several Trump-endorsed candidates lost races in swing states the New York Post reported Fox News founder Rupert Murdoch informed Trump that Fox News — or the Wall Street Journal and the Post which Murdoch also owns — would no longer back Trump’s campaign.
Trump is finding out Murdoch meant business.
“The understanding is that they’re [Fox] not to have Trump on for an interview, because the Murdochs have made it pretty clear they want to move on from Trump … Fox is showing that by not having him on,” a Trumpworld source also stated.
But Trump is leading the polls for the 2024 GOP nomination.
And how can Fox News cover the 2024 campaign by blacklisting Trump?
There are signs things are changing.
Semafor reported that Fox News is trying to balance out their coverage of Trump even if Murdoch will not allow Trump or anyone associated with his campaign on the air for an interview.
“They have been ramping up their efforts to try to give more fair coverage, or fair airtime,” a source close to Trump noted. “I don’t think they’re trying to reverse course, but they’re trying to appease, and tamp down, some of that criticism.”
This is not the first time Trump and Fox News feuded.
During the 2016 GOP primary Trump felt Murdoch and then-Fox News President Roger Ailes ordered Megyn Kelly to attack him with personal questions during the first GOP debate.
Trump boycotted Fox News for two weeks and then skipped a Fox Business Channel debate that Kelly moderated.
But this is the most serious tiff between Trump and Fox News.
And it has the potential to cost Trump the nomination.
