Fox News continues to subtly distance itself from Donald Trump.
The latest example was the most blatant sign Fox would like to move on from Trump.
Fox News just picked a fight with Donald Trump over these two lawsuits.
Donald Trump delivered the keynote speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference in Texas.
During his speech Trump once again questioned the results of the 2020 election by stating the fact that he received over 74,000,000 votes, which was a record for a sitting president.
“And now, it’s also because I got more votes, 75 million, than anybody in the history of the presidency, and far more than Clinton, far more than Obama, and a record 12 million more than 2016,” Trump told the crowd. “Think of it, in the history usually they go down a little bit second term and they win, but they go down a little bit.”
Trump claimed the outcome of the 2020 election – where Trump alleged widespread fraud – rendered America an international laughingstock.
“It’s a disgrace to our nation, and we are truly being scorned and disrespected all over the world,” Trump added.
Trump claimed the election was “rigged” and there was “so much evidence” of fraud.
Trump’s made these claims before.
They are a staple of his rally speeches and public statements.
But the newsworthy event was how Fox News covered Trump’s speech.
Fox does not always cover Trump’s rally speeches anymore.
In fact, Fox did not cover Trump’s speeches in Ohio and Florida allowing Newsmax to score record ratings and outdraw Fox on those nights.
Fox News did cover this speech.
When Trump launched into his allegations of fraud in the 2020 election, Fox put a disclaimer up on the screen noting that Smartmatic and Dominion voting machine software companies denied claims by Trump and his attorneys that their software switched votes from Trump to Joe Biden.
“Voting system companies have denied the various allegations made by President Trump and his counsel regarding the 2020 election,” the onscreen graphic read.
Smartmatic sued Fox News for $2.7 billion and Dominion sued Fox News for $1.6 billion dollars.
Pro-Trump attorney Sidney Powell and some others injected the conspiracy that voting machines switched votes into the discussion in the immediate aftermath of the 2020 election.
While there was no evidence to back up these claims, Fox News reported on what attorneys supporting the president claimed.
But Fox – as well as Newsmax – will go out of their way to avoid repeating or giving credence to any conspiracy theory about hackers breaking into voting machine software and altering the totals in certain states.
And that meant Fox tried to censor, or real-time fact-check Donald Trump while he was delivering a speech.
