Fox News Channel is known for never backing down in a fight.
But this time Fox caved.
And Fox News made one giant reversal that left viewers stunned at what they saw.
This past July, Fox News Channel banned a commercial from MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell advertising Lindell’s three-day cyber symposium on alleged voter fraud in the 2020 election.
Lindell is convinced Donald Trump won the election and Lindell – like Fox News – is facing a lawsuit from Dominion Voting Systems over claims made that Dominion machines altered votes.
Fox News banning Lindell’s ad about a cyber symposium about alleged fraud in the 2020 election likely set off legal alarm bells at Fox in light of Dominion’s lawsuit and led the network to canceling the ad.
Lindell blasted Fox News for banning his ad and announced that MyPillow pulled all its brand advertisements from Fox’s air.
“Shame on Fox News! Shame on them,” Lindell said in a statement obtained by The Daily Beast. “When I was told they wouldn’t run the ad, I said to cut off advertising on Fox immediately and indefinitely.”
“MyPillow is done with them, MyPillow is done!” Lindell added.
Lindell pulling all his ads represented a significant blow to Fox.
MyPillow plunked down $50 million in TV advertising on Fox News in 2020 and shelled out another $19 million in 2021 before Lindell yanked all the company’s ads.
Lindell removing his ads from Fox’s air was a substantial blow to the channel.
Left-wing activists target Fox’s mainstream advertisers in an effort to force them to pull their ads and financially strangle Fox News.
Lindell’s $50 million in advertising represented a massive chunk of the ads seen during the primetime shows that left-wing online mobs target.
After Lindell pulled the ads, Lindell accused Fox News of participating in cancel culture.
“I think Fox News has done more damage to the country than all the left-wing media have put together, by not talking about the issues and by choosing to censor what they talk about!” Lindell concluded. “Fox is being a part of the cancel culture!”
Fox News responded with a statement to The Wall Street Journal – both entities are owned by Rupert Murdoch –saying that “it’s unfortunate Mr. Lindell has chosen to pause his commercial time on FOX News given the level of success he’s experienced in building his brand through advertising on the number one cable news network.”
Nearly three months later and it appears that the relationship is healed.
Lindell was back with a new ad on Fox advertising a $99 bundle of five pillows featuring biblical images and a copy of his book.
In the commercial Lindell also nodded to the disagreement with Fox News saying,“cancel culture has not only affected myself and MyPillow, but millions of you out there.”
Fox News is not known for backing down to advertiser threats.
But in this case cooler heads prevailed and the status quo with Fox News and MyPillow is restored.
