Muslim Rep. Ilhan Omar is working overtime to prove she is the most extreme Democrat in Congress.
And she is succeeding.
But she just crossed an unthinkable line and might be forced to resign.
There were many promises of the Obama Administration that he refused to follow through with.
But one of the most noticeable of those failures was his refusal to recognize the Armenian genocide.
The Armenian genocide occurred between the years of 1914 to 1923, and resulted in the extermination of 1.5 million Armenians at the hands of the Ottoman Empire.
Despite the genocide being almost unanimously acknowledged as a historical fact by historians, there are those who continue to deny it to this day.
Those denials are generally promoted by Turkey, who considers claims of the genocide as anti-Turk propaganda.
Prominent leftists have engaged in this denial, which has been compared to Holocaust denial.
And as it turns out, Ilhan Omar may be in that same group.
For the first time, Congress officially recognized the event as a genocide with bipartisan support.
But Omar refused to back the proposal, voting “present.”
In her explanation, she claims that she won’t support the measure until Congress recognizes the “mass slaughter” of “hundreds of millions of indigenous people,” and the “transatlantic slave trade.”
But she also seems to take a nod towards Armenian genocide deniers in her explanation, suggesting that the genocide may not have occurred at all.
She argues that the vote was politically motivated, and that this fight should “be done based on academic consensus outside the push and pull of geopolitics.”
Omar is correct in her assertion that there is a lot of “push and pull” around the world on this issue.
But virtually all of the dissent comes from Turkey, which refuses to acknowledge the event.
Earlier this year, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan blasted nations, accusing his own of committing genocide as having their own “bloody past” while making their claims.
So Omar’s response closely mirrors Erdogan, who himself is Muslim, and the president of the largest Muslim country in the world.
It is very ironic that Omar will take such a stand on the Armenian genocide, while she herself often accuses Israel of horrific crimes.
She has even falsely accused Israel of engaging in activities there is definitive proof they were not engaging in.
Following a series of particularly vicious attacks against Israel from Palestinian terrorists, Omar backed Palestine, and alleged that Israel was occupying Gaza.
In fact, Israel pulled out of Gaza over a decade ago in hopes of encouraging peace talks with Palestinians.
Shortly after that decision, the terrorist group Hamas took control of Gaza and has occupied it to this day.
Omar is making these despicable claims while serving on the House Foreign Affairs Committee.
Many have been calling on her to resign, including Vice President Mike Pence.
