Ilhan Omar quickly earned a reputation as one of the most controversial Democrats in Congress.
The Muslim immigrant from Somalia is at the center of a number of escalating scandals.
And Omar is hiding this one secret from her past that could be the end of her career.
Omar represents Minnesota’s Fifth Congressional District.
The district is home to a large population of immigrants from Somalia.
But it’s also home to the terrorist recruitment capital of the United States.
Fox News reports, “FBI stats show 45 Somalis left to join the ranks of either the Somalia-based Islamic insurgency al-Shabab, or the Iraq- and Syria-based ISIS combined. And as of 2018, a dozen more had been arrested with the intention of leaving to support ISIS.”
Omar recently mocked Donald Trump for declaring a national emergency to build a border wall and stating that illegal immigration had become a crisis.
The Minnesota Democrat laughed at the idea and demanded the next Democrat President to declare a national emergency to impose gun control, as well as taxes and regulations to combat so-called “man-made global warming.”
But the stats from her own district show there is a crisis in America, and Americans want to know who is coming into the country and for what reason.
However, her past actions should cause even more concern.
Back in 2016, then-State Representative Omar asked a judge to go easy on nine Somali men who had schemed to sneak into Mexico as part of a plan to travel to Syria and join ISIS.
An elected official should be expected to demand a judge to throw the book at individuals caught trying to join Islamic terrorist organizations that want to wage war on the United States.
Instead, Omar showed that her loyalty was with alleged terrorists and not the United States of America.
In her letter Omar wrote, “Incarcerating 20-year-old men for 30 or 40 years is essentially a life sentence. Society will have no expectations of the to be 50 or 60-year-old released prisoners; it will view them with distrust and revulsion. Such punitive measures not only lack efficacy, they inevitably create an environment in which extremism can flourish, aligning with the presupposition of terrorist recruitment: ‘Americans do not accept you and continue to trivialize your value. Instead of being a nobody, be a martyr.’”
Omar then insisted the judge take a “restorative justice” approach, claiming that punishing alleged terrorists would allow ISIS to live on.
She wrote, “The restorative approach provides a long-term solution – though the self-declared Islamic State may soon suffer defeat, their radical approach to change-making will continue as it has throughout history – by criminalizing the undergirding construct rather than its predisposed victims. Therein, this ruling can set a precedent and has the potential to be a landmark case in addressing extremism.”
This scandal should be the straw that breaks the camel’s back.
Omar is under heat for repeated anti-Semitic comments and attending events with groups that support Hamas and Hezbollah.
Her sympathetic letter for terrorists should cause Democrats to reassess the situation and give her the final shove out of office.
