Nancy Pelosi and her fellow impeachment-crazed Democrats never saw this coming.
All the so-called “experts” in Washington thought the American people would turn against President Trump the second the Democrats threw down the gauntlet on impeachment.
But one number just proved impeachment blew up in Nancy Pelosi’s face in this unexpected way.
When Nancy Pelosi stood before the cameras and announced her support for an impeachment inquiry no one knew how it would play out.
Early polls showed Democrats consolidating behind the idea of impeachment now that it was an official party position.
But the key metric would be Republican support.
Democrats can stampede articles of impeachment through the House of Representatives on a simple majority.
However, the Constitution mandates that to remove the President, two-thirds of Senators must vote to convict.
That means 20 Republicans need to break ranks and join the Democrats if Pelosi hopes to see impeachment succeed.
The only way that will happen is if the bottom falls out on President Trump’s support from rank-and-file Republican voters.
Public opinion polls showed the President holding a 91 percent approval rating among Republicans that did not seem likely.
That fantasy seemed even more far-fetched when the President and his allies announced the tremendous grassroots support for Trump in the way of the Presidential campaign seeing fundraising shoot through the roof.
Days after Pelosi bungled into an impeachment fight, Eric Trump tweeted out jaw-dropping news about the campaign raising 15 million dollars in just 72 hours after Pelosi’s announcement.
“UPDATE: We have now raised almost $15 million in small dollar donations (including 50,000 NEW donors) since @SpeakerPelosi started this impeachment charade 72 hrs ago! Unbelievable numbers!! Keep it going — you and the dems are handing @realDonaldTrump the win in 2020!” the President’s son tweeted.
But that wasn’t even the biggest bombshell.
Campaign Manager Brad Parscale stunned political pundits with the news that the Trump Campaign and Republican National Committee hauled in an eye-popping $125 million in the third fundraising quarter.
“Huge fundraising haul this quarter. The @gop and @realDonaldTrump campaign brought in 125 million!!! @GOPChairwoman has been killing it. She’s a great partner as we go on to win 4 more years,” Parscale wrote.
To put this number into perspective, that 125 million dollars nearly doubled the 70 million Barack Obama and the Democrat National Committee raked in during the same reporting period in Obama’s successful re-election campaign.
The Trump fundraising haul worried Democrats.
Dan Pfeiffer – who served as a senior advisor to President Obama – sounded the alarm bells.
“This should be a giant wake up call. Trump is going to have more resources to deploy earlier and more aggressively than any candidate in history,” Pfeiffer wrote.
If Democrats thought impeachment would demoralize the Republican base or drive a wedge between the grassroots and President Trump, they thought wrong.
