The investigation into connections between Trump and Russia is dominating Washington.
Pundits and Democrats are floating impeachment while Trump declares the scandal is fake news.
But a top intelligence official just announced whether or not a smoking gun exists.
Former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper was interviewed on Meet the Press.
As part of his questioning, host Chuck Todd asked Clapper if he had seen any direct evidence of collusion between the Trump campaign and the Russians.
Clapper stated no.
“Clapper said that although he did not see any “smoking-gun evidence of collusion” between the Trump campaign and Russian officials while serving in the federal government, he thinks the information coming out of the ongoing congressional and FBI probes “certainly arouses your concern about what is going on.”
“I have to say, at the time I left, I did not see any smoking-gun evidence of collusion, but it certainly was appropriate, given all the signs, certainly appropriate for the FBI to investigate.”
Clapper has repeatedly said he has seen no evidence of collusion.
He first said so several months ago in an earlier appearance on Meet the Press.
And he testified to this fact in front of the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee.
But despite his repeated claims of not seeing any evidence of collusion – and as Director of National Intelligence he would have access to all the information – the media and Democrats continue to press on with this fake scandal.
Clapper isn’t the only ex-Obama official or prominent Democrat to say he has seen no evidence of collusion.
Former CIA Director John Brennan also testified he had seen no evidence of collusion.
He dressed up his answer with talk about people unwittingly committing treason, but he was ultimately forced to admit he had seen nothing.
Breitbart reports on his testimony:
“I encountered and am aware of information and intelligence that revealed contacts and interactions between Russian officials and U.S. persons involved in the Trump campaign that I was concerned about because of known Russian efforts to suborn such individuals and it raised questions in my mind, again, whether or not the Russians were able to gain the cooperation of those individuals.
I don’t know whether or not such collusion — and that’s your term, such collusion existed. I don’t know. But I know that there was a sufficient basis of information and intelligence that required further investigation by the bureau to determine whether or not U.S. persons were actively conspiring, colluding with Russian officials.“
California Democrat Diane Feinstein has also repeatedly stated she has seen no evidence of collusion.
This scandal exists only in the minds of Democrats and members of the media who are desperate for an angle to use to force Trump from office.
But while intelligence officials and Senators flatly declare there is no evidence of collusion, Deep State leakers continue to feed the press tidbits to keep the story in the news cycle.
The latest attempt was the leak that Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner met with the Russian Ambassador in December and proposed creating a backchannel for communications between the Trump administration and Russia.
This meeting occurred in December after the election, but the media lumped it into the “Russia” story.
And with the Justice Department appointing former FBI Director Robert Mueller as Special Counsel for the Russia investigation, it will drag this inquiry on for years.
At some point, however, there will be an answer to the central question of did the Trump campaign actually collude with Russia.
But meanwhile, all the evidence – or lack thereof – and testimony by officials with access to all the intelligence say there was no collusion.
