Joe Biden’s poll numbers sunk, and Democrats are panicking and looking for a scapegoat.
They settled on someone no one would have expected.
And Joe Biden admitted Kamala Harris was a failure with this embarrassing demotion.
Early on, Joe Biden and his handlers knew they had a border crisis on their hands.
The number of illegal aliens crossing into America surged after Biden opened the borders by rolling back many of Donald Trump’s border policies.
Polls early on in Biden’s tenure – when he was still in his honeymoon phase – showed the vast majority of Americans disapproved of his open borders policies.
Biden’s handlers worried illegal immigration could inspire another Trump-style backlash in 2022 and 2024 so Biden named Kamala Harris as his border czar.
That turned out to be a disaster.
After Biden named Harris to oversee the border crisis, the situations spiraled out of control with record numbers of illegal aliens crossing the border in April, May, June and July.
In July, a jaw-dropping 212,000 illegal aliens poured over the border, thousands of which tested positive for the coronavirus.
A leaked audio tape of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas revealed Mayorkas admitting the situation at the border was “unsustainable.”
With Biden’s poll numbers falling below 50 percent of the FiveThirtyEight.com aggregator and the Democrats’ political prospects in 2022 deteriorating, the administration tried to get a handle on the border crisis by sending a delegation to Mexico.
The White House said the following officials traveled to Mexico:
“President Biden’s National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan, DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, and Under Secretary of State Uzra Zeya traveled to Mexico on August 10 to advance U.S.-Mexico cooperation across our bilateral agenda. NSC Senior Director Juan Gonzalez, National Security Advisor to the Vice President Ambassador Nancy McEldowney, Ambassador Julissa Reynoso, State Department Senior Western Hemisphere Bureau Official Ricardo Zuniga, and Department of Homeland Security Assistant Secretary David Shahoulian also traveled with the delegation.”
Notable among the absences was Vice President Kamala Harris, the administration’s border czar.
The administration’s statement about the trip did try to save face for Harris by claiming the officials on the visit to Mexico discussed the strategy Harris supposedly developed to address the root causes of illegal immigration.
But even that highlights Harris’ failure because Harris blames illegal immigration on the economic conditions of Northern Triangle countries as opposed to the Biden administration throwing open the border and inviting illegal aliens into the country.
“Officials underscored the importance of fostering development in southern Mexico and Central America to address the root causes of irregular migration, and will work toward deeper collaboration within the Root Causes Strategy [crafted by the vice president]. They discussed current irregular migration flows and committed to jointly managing safe, orderly migration that respects human rights,” the White House statement read.
Polls show Kamala Harris is the least popular vice president in the last 50 years.
Harris’ failure at the border is a large reason why Americans turned against her.
And the administration may be trying to preserve Harris’ viability as a 2024 candidate by distancing her from the debacle at the border.
But by removing Harris from the situation, the administration is only serving to highlight her disastrous tenure as border czar.
