Democrats are worried.
Next November, the Democrats’ control of the House and Senate are on the ballot.
And Joe Biden brought up one piece of history that has Nancy Pelosi in a panic.
Gun-grabbers like Joe Biden love to exploit mass shootings as their best chance to ban and confiscate firearms.
Biden and other anti-gun politicians know their agenda is unpopular so they wait for the moment when they can wave a bloody shirt as emotional blackmail to force Republicans to cave in to the demands to gut the Second Amendment.
Democrats could not wait to leverage the terrible tragedy in Boulder, Colorado where a Muslim gunman murdered 10 innocents at a supermarket.
Within 24 hours of the horrific event—and without knowing any facts surrounding the killings—Joe Biden demanded Congress ban guns.
“While we’re still waiting for more information, I don’t need to wait another minute, let alone an hour, to take common-sense steps that will save lives in the future, and to urge my colleagues in the House and Senate to act. We can ban assault weapons and high-capacity magazines in this country once again,” Biden said in remarks from the White House.
But then Biden brought up some bad memories for Democrats.
Biden bragged about how when he served in the Senate he spearheaded the passage of the disastrous 1994 so-called “assault weapons” ban.
“I got that done when I was a senator. It passed. It was the law for the longest time. And it brought down these mass killings. We should do it again,” Biden added.
Republicans eventually let the law sunset in 2004, but the Democrats paid a heavy political price.
In the 1994 midterm elections, Republicans scored ahistoric victory picking up 52 seats and gaining control of the House of Representatives for the first time since 1948.
Republicans also flipped the Senate and won control of several key governors’ mansions.
Democrats are about to make banning and confiscating firearms a centerpiece of their domestic political agenda.
The House of Representatives just passed legislation creating a federal firearms registration database.
Joe Biden is doubling down with a call to ban commonly owned rifles.
Many Democrats fear this is bad news in 2022.
And they have to look no further than the aftermath of Joe Biden’s history with gun control in election years to understand the danger they are walking into.
As Biden noted, he led the push for the 1994 so-called “assault weapons” ban which largely cost Democrats control of both houses of Congress.
But in 2013 Barack Obama tasked Biden with shepherding a national gun registration database bill through Congress after the terrible tragedy at Sandy Hook.
That bill failed, but in the following year’s midterm elections the Democrats lost nine Senate seats, handing Republicans control.
Republicans later used that power to keep Antonin Scalia’s Supreme Court seat open after his passing, which paid off when Donald Trump won the 2016 election.
Trump then remade the Supreme Court with three nominees, which may never have been possible if not for gun control blowing up in the Democrats’ faces in the 2014 midterm election.
Gun control is a political loser for Democrats.
And they may be walking into this trap once again.
