Americans were blindsided by the latest announcement from the Biden administration.
No one liked what they were hearing.
Joe Biden gave Americans some bad news with one thing he wants to force them to do.
The latest example of COVID authoritarianism hit Americans like a ton of bricks.
A Washington Post story broke the news that the Biden administration secretly colluded with Big Tech companies to create vaccine passports that Americans must download onto their phones in order to engage in economic or social activities.
The Biden administration imagines forcing Americans to turnover their private medical data to private companies with shaky security in order to download an app on their phoneso they can provide proof of vaccination on demand.
“The passports are expected to be free and available through applications for smartphones, which could display a scannable code similar to an airline boarding pass. Americans without smartphone access should be able to print out the passports, developers have said,” the Washington Post reported.
The Post reports that app developers are pitching vaccine passports as the ticket back to normal life:
“The busboy, the janitor, the waiter that works at a restaurant, wants to be surrounded by employees that are going back to work safely — and wants to have the patrons ideally be safe as well,” said Brian Anderson, a physician at Mitre, a nonprofit company that runs federally funded research centers, who is helping lead the initiative. “Creating an environment for those vulnerable populations to get back to work safely — and to know that the people coming back to their business are ‘safe,’ and vaccinated — would be a great scenario.”
Americans were afraid this day would come.
Critics contend vaccine passports infringe on individual liberty by creating a backdoor vaccine mandate.
Americans that do not choose to receive the coronavirus vaccine would turn into second class citizens overnight as they would not be able to produce their “papers, please” and would be barred from entering sporting events, concert halls, restaurants, movie theaters, bars, museums and salons.
There have been massive hacks of corporate and government entities over the last several years including the devastating solar winds hack.
The idea of turning their personal medical information over to a corporate entity with little hope of the data being secure disturbs many Americans.
In addition, the Post’s reporting does not suggest there is any end date to the vaccine passport meaning that showing proof of vaccination could become a permanent feature of American life.
Many point to the fact that “15 days to slow the spread” turned into over one year of lockdowns and mask mandates as evidence of “COVID mission creep” and not believing that vaccine passports would ever go away.
