Joe Biden’s political standing continues to spiral out of control.
The one issue Joe Biden pegged as his best chance for a turnaround could prove to be his undoing.
And Joe Biden got slapped with more bad news just when he could least afford it.
As Joe Biden’s poll numbers plummeted from an accumulation of crises involving the economy, the border and Afghanistan, Democrats scrambled to cobble together a comeback strategy.
Biden settled on vaccine mandates.
Democrat voters will accept any and all lockdown restrictions, mask mandates and forced vaccination schemes so Biden figured a federal mandate requiring workers at companies with more than 100 employees to take the vaccine or lose their jobs would rally the base and arrest his polling slide.
But Biden faced key pushback from his political base.
Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva announced he would not enforce the county’s vaccine requirement on his police force.
Sheriff Villanueva announced the vaccine mandate was too divisive politically to put into practice and that it wasn’t fair to ask the officers under his command to choose between violating their principles or medical advice if they have natural immunity and their job.
“I’m not forcing anyone. The issue has become so politicized. There are entire groups of employees that are willing to be fired and laid off rather than get vaccinated, so I don’t want to be in a position to lose 5 percent, 10 percent of my workforce overnight on a vaccine mandate while the same time we are barebones with the defunding effort, so this is like the worst of two worlds,” Villanueva announced.
This is not the first time Villanueva bucked a mandate.
Previously, Villanueva announced his department would not enforce a tyrannical mask mandate the state imposed even though a vaccine was widely available.
“The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (DPH) has authority to enforce the order, but the underfunded/defunded Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department will not expend our limited resources and instead ask for voluntary compliance,” Villanueva stated. “We encourage the DPH to work collaboratively with the Board of Supervisors and law enforcement to establish mandates that are both achievable and supported by science.”
If Joe Biden was hoping vaccine mandates would boost his political standing Biden bet wrong.
A Morning Consult poll found that 51 percent of parents with children between the ages of 12 and 17 opposed schools mandating the COVID vaccine as a condition of in-person attendance.
The latest Quinnipiac poll found even more opposition to school vaccine mandates with nearly 70 percent of parents opposing forced vaccination for school-aged children.
Democrats desperately need Joe Biden to right the ship.
But “Plan A” – leaning on vaccine mandates – looks like it might be a dead-end.
