Joe Biden and handlers thought they were in the free and clear.
They badly misjudged the situation.
And Joe Biden is facing multiple federal investigations that have all hell breaking loose.
Joe Biden’s polling decline accelerated after the incompetently executed withdrawal from Afghanistan where Joe Biden deserted thousands of Americans in Taliban-controlled Kabul, lied to the public about the ability of the Afghan army to fight back against the Taliban, and killed 13 U.S. troops by deploying them in an impossible situation at the Kabul airport.
Democrats believed the passage of time would push Afghanistan out of the news cycle and allow Biden’s poll numbers to rebound.
But those hopes evaporated after an announcement by the State Department’s inspector general that the IG’s office intended to launch multiple investigations into the multiple failures in the Afghanistan withdrawal.
POLITICO exclusively reports:
The State Department’s inspector general is launching a series of investigations into the end of the Biden administration’s diplomatic operations in Afghanistan, according to State Department and congressional officials, as well as documents viewed by POLITICO.
The reviews by the internal watchdog will focus on the State Department’s Special Immigrant Visa program; Afghans processed for refugee admission into the U.S.; resettlement of those refugees and visa recipients; and the emergency evacuation of the U.S. Embassy in Kabul “to include evacuation of U.S. citizens and Afghan nationals,” according to an Oct. 15 action memorandum to Secretary of State Antony Blinken that was obtained by POLITICO.
The IG’s investigation will likely drag into 2022 and could play a role in next year’s midterm elections.
If the State Department inspector general produces a report after the election it will be of no comfort to Democrats and Joe Biden.
Should Republicans win the majority in the House and/or the Senate, the new GOP majority will certainly call the State Department IG to testify in an open hearing and explain the report detailing the multitude of failures by Joe Biden in planning and executing the withdrawal.
Republicans will want answers about Biden’s decision to reject a Taliban deal for Americans to secure Kabul city until the August 31 withdrawal date that would have allowed the military to evacuate U.S. citizens.
Biden also clearly lied about how every American that wanted out of Afghanistan found their way home.
That is not true.
An IG investigation could uncover the depths of the Biden administration’s lies on this front.
Afghanistan turned out to be Joe Biden’s “Katrina” moment.
George W. Bush’s presidency never recovered from the perception his administration was incompetent.
A recent Quinnipiac poll found a majority of Americans now believe Joe Biden’s administration is incompetent.
The State Department inspector general producing a damning report about Biden’s inept planning and execution of the Afghanistan withdrawal could be the Democrats’ worst nightmare in the 2024 election.
