Kamala Harris was not prepared for this moment.
It threw a major roadblock in front of her career.
And Joe Biden lowered the boom with some bad news that Kamala Harris dreaded.
In a bizarre press conference where Joe Biden’s cognitive decline was on full display as he lied, rambled, lost his train of thought and shouted at random times while he appeared to read both pre-selected questions and prepared answers from a notebook, the biggest news may have been Biden claiming he planned to run for re-election when he is 82 years old.
“The answer is yes,” Biden said when he was asked. “My plan is to run for reelection. That’s my expectation.”
One of Biden’s adoring fans in the press asked him again about a potential 2024 campaign.
“Look, I don’t know where you guys come from, man … I am a great respecter of fate. I have never been able to plan for 3.5 years ahead for certain,” Biden rambled.
Biden then floated the idea of a totalitarian one party state run by the Democrats by floating the idea that the Republican Party would not exist in 2024.
“I have no idea if there will be a Republican Party,” Biden wondered out loud. “Do you?”
Biden once again began rambling about how fate would decide his decision to run for a second term in 2024.
“The way I view things, I’ve become a great respecter of fate in my life,” Biden stated. “I set a goal that’s in front of me to get things done for the people I care most about.”
On one hand, Biden has to say he is thinking of running for president in 2024.
If Biden said otherwise it would have ended his presidency on the spot as he would have declared himself to be a lame-duck President.
But Biden went way further than he had to.
Biden could have given a non-answer and ducked the question.
It was Biden’s fan base asking the questions they would not have pressed further for an answer nor would they have made it the focus of the coverage afterwards.
Kamala Harris was hardest hit by this announcement.
Many in Washington expected that Biden—who critics contend is clearly in decline—would not run for a second term and that Kamala Harris would lead the Democrat Party into the general election.
Biden’s answer threw Harris and the rest of Washington for a loop.
Joe Biden is already older than any president in history.
By the time he runs for re-election he will be 82 years old.
If Biden wins a second term he will leave office at the age of 86.
Few Americans that watched Biden at age 78 ramble and stumble through 10 friendly questions from the charter members of his fan club believe Biden can serve as President until he’s 86.
