Americans could not believe what they heard.
A president should never admit this in public.
And now Joe Biden made one confession about Afghanistan that had all hell breaking loose.
An angry and disoriented Joe Biden shouted his way through a speech on his Afghanistan fiasco.
Biden bellowed remarks about how the disastrously planned and executed withdrawal was really Donald Trump’s fault and that Joe Biden actually presided over a historic success.
Joe Biden tried to gaslight the American people into tossing aside the chaos, death and carnage they saw play out in Afghanistan on cable news and celebrate the fact that Biden abandoned Americans behind enemy lines.
Biden claimed the Americans left behind really wanted to stay because they were dual citizens with familial attachments to Afghanistan.
“Now we believe that about 100-200 Americans remain in Afghanistan, with some intention to leave,” Biden stated. “Most of those who remain are dual-citizens, longtime residents, who earlier decided to stay because of their family roots in Afghanistan.”
Biden added that stranding ten percent of the Americans left behind in Afghanistan was a measure of national pride.
“The bottom line: 90% of Americans in Afghanistan who wanted to leave were able to leave,” Biden continued. “And for those remaining Americans, there is no deadline. We remain committed to get them out if they want to come out.”
Biden then shifted to blaming the Americans Biden stranded in Afghanistan for their own plight.
“Since March, we reached out 19 times to Americans in Afghanistan with multiple warnings and offers to help them leave Afghanistan,” Biden stated. “After we started the evacuation 17 days ago, we did initial outreach and analysis, and identified around 5,000 Americans who had decided earlier to stay in Afghanistan, but now wanted to leave. Our Operation Allied Rescue ended up getting more than 5,500 Americans out.”
However, Biden was also one of the American officials lying to the public about the Afghan government’s ability to hold off the Taliban.
As recently as July, Biden predicted a safe and orderly withdrawal from Afghanistan and declared it was not inevitable that the Taliban would take over the country once the American military pulled out.
The Americans remaining in Afghanistan may have bought into Biden’s lies about the competency and fighting ability of the Afghan army and figured they had time to evacuate if everything went sideways.
Joe Biden botched the Afghanistan withdrawal with poor planning and even worse execution.
To make matters worse, Biden hid from the public disappearing for days and not taking questions at multiple public speeches.
And when Biden did show his face,Biden tried to deflect blame for the disaster and even tried to blame the victims.
Biden claiming the Americans who Biden abandoned were at fault is like blaming a murder victim for ignoring warnings about venturing into the wrong part of town.
