Joe Biden tried to reboot his presidency.
But the latest restart ended in failure because of Biden’s own party.
And Joe Biden took a phone call from a top Democrat that resulted in some serious bad news.
Joe Biden, Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi settled on a strategy of ramming what some estimates claim is nearly a $5 trillion socialist spending bill through Congress as the key to the party’s salvation in the 2022 election.
Democrats thought if they could shovel enough money out the door to Americans in the form of socialist welfare programs then voters would maintain Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi in control of Congress.
The flaw in that theory is Joe Biden’s runaway inflation.
The latest report showed wholesale prices rising at 9.6 percent – the largest increase in American history.
And last month inflation jumped 6.8 percent – the largest year-over-year increase since 1982.
Americans blame Joe Biden and his socialist spending for the skyrocketing inflation.
That’s why West Virginia Democrat Joe Manchin refused to commit to supporting Biden’s socialist crown jewel spending bill.
Manchin wants to run for re-election in ruby red West Virginia in 2024 and supporting an inflationary socialist spending bill would kill his political future.
Joe Biden tried to pin Manchin down on supporting the $5 trillion big government boondoggle in a series of phone calls but it was no dice.
In fact, the negotiations went poorly with Manchin refusing to commit to one of the bill’s centerpieces – a $300 a month welfare payment for children that discourages work.
POLITICO reports:
“The talks between [Biden] and Manchin have been going very poorly. They are far apart,” the source said.
Though Manchin and Biden developed a warm rapport this year and collaborated on several prominent pieces of legislation, the plodding pace of the talks between the two Joes threatens is straining their friendly relationship. Frustration among White House aides with Manchin is high and growing. And while Biden likes Manchin personally, he too has grown tired of the elongated talks and will soon push him to make a decision and support the legislation, according to two White House sources.
Chuck Schumer hoped to ram this bill through the Senate by Christmas.
Manchin’s opposition kills that dream dead.
Democrats used the reconciliation process to push this bill through the Senate.
That means Democrats can avoid a GOP filibuster and pass the bill with just 51 votes.
However, since the Senate is split 50/50 Manchin’s opposition leaves Democrats one vote short.
Democrats tried to put a brave spin on matters saying Manchin delayed a vote into 2022.
But an iron law of politics is that everything gets harder in an election year.
Polls already show a poisonous environment for Democrats.
With swing state senators up for re-election in Arizona, Georgia, Nevada and New Hampshire the longer Manchin delays his support for this $5 trillion socialist spending bill, the more the odds increase the bill will fail.
