Kamala Harris thought if she stayed out of sight, the stink of Joe Biden’s failure in Afghanistan would not attach to her.
Harris gambled ducking for cover would keep her 2024 presidential ambitions alive.
But Kamala Harris got some bad news with this disastrous poll result.
Harris stayed out of sight for days as Afghanistan fell to the Taliban and the Biden administration stranded thousands of American citizens behind enemies with an unclear plan to rescue them.
Americans only saw Harris in a staged photo to give the impression the clearly confused and overwhelmed Joe Biden asserted command over the deteriorating situation on the ground in Afghanistan.
Harris also stood silently behind Joe Biden as Biden exhibited clear signs of cognitive decline in a disastrous press conference where Biden spewed falsehood after falsehood about the debacle in Afghanistan in response to pre-selected and pre-approved questions.
This gamble backfired as Harris learned if a president fails, the American people also associate it with the vice president.
A brand-new Rasmussen poll found a six-point surge in the number of Americans that believe Kamala Harris is unqualified to serve as president.
The Blaze reports:
A Rasmussen poll released on Thursday showed that a majority of Americans, 55%, said that Harris was “not qualified” or “not at all qualified” to assume the duties of the presidency.
Alternately, only 43% of those polled said that Harris was either “qualified” or “very qualified” to be president.
This is a 6 percentage point drop from the same poll conducted in April, where 49% of respondents said she was qualified.
Joe Biden’s poor performance in botching the withdrawal from Afghanistan and then disappearing into hiding led many Americans to conclude Biden could not run for president again in 2024 when he would be 81 years old due to cognitive decline.
Reports indicated Democrats already worried about Harris as Biden’s successor due to her poor political operation and skills as well as her failure as Biden’s border czar.
This Rasmussen poll only adds to Harris’ 2024 woes.
But due to Harris’ status as vice president and the Democrats’ commitment to identity politics – it will be difficult for candidates to challenge the first female black vice president – Harris is likely to win the 2024 Democrat Party nomination for president.
That could leave Democrats facing a repeat of 2016 where the party owed a historically weak candidate – Hillary Clinton – the nomination because of the perceived historic status of what their candidacy meant to key constituencies in their voting coalition.
That backfired in 2016 as Donald Trump defeated Hillary Clinton.
Many Democrats fear that a 2024 match-up between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris would end with Democrats suffering another crushing defeat to Trump.
And the new polling data suggests that fear is very real.
