Kamala Harris and the rest of the Biden administration shifted gears on Afghanistan.
That ended up bringing about more bad news.
And Kamala Harris instantly regretted making a terrible public mistake.
The corporate media pummeled the administration with negative headlines about abandoning Americans in Afghanistan after an incompetently executed military withdrawal.
Joe Biden’s poll numbers sunk with a new USAToday/Suffolk poll showing Biden’s job approval rating plunging to 41 percent.
The administration settled on a new strategy of declaring the evacuation a historic success and demanding the corporate media flip the narrative to that of a Biden administration victory lap.
Kamala Harris tried to play her part in this new scheme to gaslight Americans into thinking Joe Biden’s humiliating retreat was actually a massive win for the nation.
In a speech on her foreign trip to Singapore and Vietnam, Harris falsely claimed the evacuation was a success because there were no American casualties.
“We have seen a successful drawdown of the embassy and thankfully without any American casualties,” Harris stated. “We have seen thousands of people who have been evacuated from the airport in Afghanistan where the United States military are doing very hard and difficult work.”
Harris claiming America suffered no casualties was a lie.
On Fox News, host Harris Faulkner fact-checked the vice president in real time.
Faulkner noted that Harris falsely claimed that the definition of casualty meant deaths.
“I just want to drill down a little bit on the word ‘casualty.’ That does not totally mean death. It means injuries and death. It would be only fatalities the way that she said it there,”Faulkner began.
Faulkner added that the U.S. did suffer casualties because Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin admitted that Taliban fighters beat Americans trying to escape to the Kabul Airport.
“How do we know there have been U.S. casualties? Because the Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin told us Americans were being beaten on the way to checkpoints. That’s a casualty, that’s an injury,” Faulkner added. “But what she is talking about we believe is people who perished. We’ll hope that number stays at zero as far as it is reported.”
Even reliable allies in the corporate media are not buying the administration’s spin of historic success.
“You can look at this as a tremendously humiliating — a moment of American humiliation, leaving, forced to leave on the Taliban’s clock and with the Taliban’s good graces. So, tactically it makes sense but I’m not sure how history — I think history will judge this moment as a very dark period for the United States,” NBC’s Richard Engel declared.
In typical fashion for Kamala Harris, the vice president tried to stage a political event to flip the narrative.
And like Harris’ disastrous trip to Central America succeeding in only attracting more negative coverage of the administration’s mismanagement of the border crisis, Harris’ speech about Afghanistan only served to highlight how the administration detached itself from the reality on the ground and cannot tell the truth.
