Kamala Harris is one of the strongest Democrats running for president.
Many on the left think she can defeat President Trump.
But Harris’ campaign just fell off a cliff with this outrageous claim.
California Democratic Senator Kamala Harris officially announced she was running for president of the United States last month.
Within days, Harris’ campaign became one of the strongest in an increasingly crowded Democratic primary field.
With over a million dollars raised in less than 24 hours after jumping in the race, Harris was rumored to be the favorite pick of the Democratic establishment to take on President Trump in 2020.
But Harris’ campaign has since begun to fall apart.
And now, she’s under fire for this outrageous claim that one of the most radical socialist proposals ever seen in the history of America could be properly paid for.
Breitbart reports, “Sunday on CNN’s ‘Inside Politics,’ Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) argued the United States could afford the trillions of dollars the Green New Deal could cost taxpayers.”
Harris’ decision to latch on to Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s “Green New Deal” proposal could sink her in the general election against Donald Trump.
That’s, of course, assuming that she actually wins the Democratic nomination, to begin with.
But with Ocasio-Cortez’s Green New Deal catching fire within Democratic circles, Harris was likely caught between a rock and a hard place.
She’s made the decision to placate her leftist base in order to shore up her own party’s flank heading into the primary process, while at the same time making it harder for her to win the general election against Trump.
But Harris may have made a critical mistake.
The American people aren’t exactly thrilled with the Green New Deal.
And many consider the proposal to be a complete joke from one of the most radical and uninformed members of Congress.
With a major presidential candidate signing onto the proposal, and then defending the multi-trillion-dollar price tag that comes along with it, Harris is at risk of making herself out to be a laughingstock of the rest of the country.
Not even the New York Times finds Ocasio-Cortez’s plan reasonable or even physically possible.
And Harris chose to not only back the plan, but defend the details of it.
“It’s not about a cost. It’s about an investment. And the question should be, is it worth the cost in terms of the investment potential? Are we going to get back more than we put in,” Harris said.
Of course, there’s no way the United States will get back the trillions it sinks into Ocasio-Cortez’s ridiculous proposal.
The Green New Deal can’t even function the way it was originally written, which is why it was so widely mocked by ordinary Americans after it was revealed.
This means Harris is going to have to defend the most ridiculous proposal ever put forward in the history of the country if she is the nominee.
That can’t be good news for the Democratic Senator from California who sees herself facing President Trump in 2020.
