Kamala Harris would like to be president one day.
That dream looks unlikely to come true now.
And Kamala Harris saw her career crash and burn before her eyes when she saw this new poll.
Many pundits expect that Joe Biden steps aside and lets Kamala Harris run for president in 2024.
But for Democrats to keep the White House, Kamala Harris’ fortunes are hitched to those of Joe Biden’s presidency.
If the American people view Biden as a success, it is more likely they vote for the status quo in 2024 and elect Kamala Harris as president in 2024.
That looks like an uphill battle in the wake of Joe Biden flubbing the withdrawal of American military forces from Afghanistan.
Biden stranded up to 15,000 Americans with his insane plan to pull the military out before evacuating all civilians, and the Taliban seized control of the country in one weekend.
Americans watched in horror as Afghans plummeted to their deaths after falling from planes 2,000 feet in the air as they tried to cling to the craft.
Joe Biden’s approval ratings took an immediate hit.
Reuters found Biden’s approval number plunged seven points from Friday to Monday as Americans absorbed the full extent of Biden’s failure.
Reuters reports:
The national opinion poll, conducted on Monday, found that 46% of American adults approved of Biden’s performance in office, the lowest recorded in weekly polls that started when Biden took office in January.
It is also down from the 53% who felt the same way in a similar Reuters/Ipsos poll that ran on Friday.
Biden’s popularity dropped as the Taliban entered the capital, Kabul, wiping away two decades of U.S. military presence that cost nearly 1 trillion taxpayer dollars and thousands of American lives.
The corporate media made a big to-do the last seven months about how stable Biden’s approval ratings were.
But in recent weeks they began to slip.
Biden’s numbers remained stable because Biden’s allies in the corporate media largely ignored negative stories about the border crisis, inflation and crime to instead paint the false picture of the administration as hypercompetent biomedical warriors out to crush the coronavirus.
However, when Biden settled into a state of permanent pandemic by reimposing mask requirements, the American people began to sour on his presidency.
Biden’s humiliating failure in Afghanistan turned cracks in his support into massive fissures.
Joe Biden’s plummeting approval ratings put their entire Democrat government in danger.
Democrats thought their majority in the Senate remained safe because most of the toss-up races take place in Republican-held seats.
But every point that Joe Biden’s approval ratings sink, the greater the danger for Chuck Schumer’s position as majority leader.
The ultimate loser in this entire fiasco is likely to be Kamala Harris.
As vice president, Harris is not judged on her own as a political entity – although that would not work out in Harris’ favor either as her failure as border czar finds her as the least popular vice president in 50 years.
Instead, the public views Harris as an extension of Joe Biden.
A vote for Harris is a vote for four more years of what the public already lived through.
And the disastrous withdrawal in Afghanistan – with up to 15,000 Americans trapped behind Taliban checkpoints fearing for their lives – will not be a big selling point for Harris in 2024.
