Kamala Harris proved once again why a recent poll showed 55 percent of Americans did not believe Harris was qualified to serve as president.
The public was left speechless by what they saw.
And Kamala Harris went into hiding when this awful news from Afghanistan came down.
Kamala Harris retreated from public view as Joe Biden’s disastrously executed Afghanistan withdrawal turned into the biggest American foreign policy humiliation since the Vietnam War.
But Harris did resurface on a foreign trip to Singapore and Vietnam to try and spin the press that the Biden administration’s failure to evacuate all Americans out of Afghanistan by the August 31 retreat deadline signified a historic success because the U.S. suffered no casualties.
Events exiled that laughable talking point to the dustbin of history.
That’s because Biden’s incompetence eventually cost the lives of 13 American service members.
Biden’s nonsensical idea to count on the Taliban to provide security for U.S. forces at the Kabul airport failed miserably as two ISIS suicide bombers staged murderous terrorist attacks.
Harris’ staff quickly adjusted the schedule to hide the vice president from the press – and thus the American people.
The schedule called for the vice president to address the troops at Pearl Harbor before heading back to Washington.
But that went out the window with the deaths of 12 Marines and one Navy corpsman.
“The VP’s staff informed the pool during the flight that her event with troops at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam would now be closed press,” Harris’ press pool reported. “No explanation given by the VP’s team for why it has been changed to closed press when asked by a member of the pool.”
Harris’ team did not want the vice president answering unscripted questions from the press about the administration’s dereliction of duty in Afghanistan that resulted in 13 dead troops.
There was good reason to shield Harris.
Harris’ foreign trip was a debacle in its own right.
The trip began with Harris bursting out in her trademark cackle when asked by reporters to address the failed evacuation from Afghanistan.
Then, when Harris refused to admit to any mistakes in the chaotic and poorly executed withdrawal, Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong corrected Harris in public to her face saying the mission went “awry.”
“What will influence perceptions of U.S. resolve and commitment to the region will be what the U.S. does going forward: how it repositions itself in the region, how it engages its broad range of friends and partners and allies in the region, and how it continues the fight against terrorism,” Lee stated in a joint press conference with Harris. “Countries make calculations and take positions, and they have to make recalculations and adjust their positions from time to time. Sometimes it can be done smoothly. Sometimes there are hiccups. Sometimes things go awry and take time to put right.”
Had Harris’ event been open to the press, reporters may have been able to question her about the administration’s failure in Afghanistan.
And from day one, Harris’ preferred posture is to pretend this calamity never happened and hope everyone eventually forgets about it.
