And it’s leading to Pelosi doing something no one ever thought was possible.
Nancy Pelosi announced one surrender that led to this one big threat to her power.
It’s down to the nitty gritty for Democrats trying to ram Joe Biden’s multi-trillion-dollar socialist scheme through Congress.
Pelosi and Chuck Schumer still can’t sew up the votes because Democrat Senators Kyrsten Sinema and Joe Manchin will only support $1.5 trillion in socialist spending whereas the original plan called for a $3.5 trillion socialist boondoggle.
Speaker Pelosi met with Democrats behind closed doors and begged them to accept a slimmed down socialist bill or else Americans would conclude Democrats cannot govern.
“Embrace this,” Pelosi pleaded. “And have a narrative of success.”
Most Americans already view Joe Biden’s presidency as a dumpster fire of failure as runaway inflation and crippling shortages chocked off economic growth.
The border is wide open as a record number of illegal aliens invaded America in 2021.
House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer – Pelosi’s chief deputy – doubled down on the desperation strategy that if Democrats rammed this socialist spending bill through Congress, they would look like they are winning and the voters would treat them as winners next November.
“If we don’t act like we are winning, the American people won’t believe it either,” Hoyer declared.
But just when Pelosi thought she was on the cusp of victory, socialist Senator Bernie Sanders pumped the brakes on Pelosi’s victory lap.
Because Chuck Schumer needs all 50 Democrat senators to vote yes, Manchin and Sinema largely drove the debate about which socialist policies made the cut and which new welfare state programs got the axe.
Bernie Sanders finally made his presence felt and announced that he could not support a bill that did not expand government-run healthcare and put the government in charge of prescription drug prices.
“There are two issues out there that the American people have been very clear about. And that is they are sick and tired of paying the highest prices in the world on prescription drugs. They want Medicare to negotiate prescription drug prices, and that’s got to be in this bill. And the second thing is that the American people are embarrassed that in the richest nation on earth, millions and millions of seniors are unable to digest their food because they don’t have teeth in their mouth. They can’t hear, talk to their grandchildren because they can’t afford hearing aids. They can’t read a newspaper because they don’t have glasses. We’ve got to deal with those issues,” Sanders stated.
Manchin and Sinema opposed both of those proposals, so Democrats dropped them.
But if Bernie Sanders won’t support the bill unless it includes new socialist healthcare schemes Chuck Schumer still finds himself one vote short.
And Democrats may encounter difficulty trying to square that circle.
