The corporate media routinely paints a picture of Nancy Pelosi as a master political strategist.
That narrative collapsed.
And it happened after Nancy Pelosi committed a blunder that handed Republicans the one thing they wanted.
Nancy Pelosi announced that she rejected two of House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy’s picks – Ohio Congressman Jim Jordan and Indiana Congressman Jim Banks – to serve on Pelosi’s January 6 select committee.
Pelosi’s statement read:
“Monday evening, the Minority Leader recommended 5 Members to serve on the Select Committee. I have spoken with him this morning about the objections raised about Representatives Jim Banks and Jim Jordan and the impact their appointments may have on the integrity of the investigation. I also informed him that I was prepared to appoint Representatives Rodney Davis, Kelly Armstrong and Troy Nehls, and requested that he recommend two other Members.
“With respect for the integrity of the investigation, with an insistence on the truth and with concern about statements made and actions taken by these Members, I must reject the recommendations of Representatives Banks and Jordan to the Select Committee.”
Banks and Jordan are pitbull investigators that challenge the Democrats’ narrative at every turn with tenacity and effective communication skills.
Pelosi nixed them from the committee because the entire enterprise is a political sham designed to smear conservatives and Donald Trump.
House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy responded by blasting Pelosi for confirming this committee was just a third witch hunt to go after Donald Trump.
“Denying the voices of members who have served in the military and law enforcement, as well as leaders of standing committees, has made it undeniable that this panel has lost all legitimacy and credibility and shows the Speaker is more interested in playing politics than seeking the truth,” McCarthy declared.
McCarthy also announced that he would not appoint two replacements and his other three picks would not participate.
“Unless Speaker Pelosi reverses course and seats all five Republican nominees, Republicans will not be party to their sham process,” McCarthy continued.
This move quickly backfired.
Democrats hoped to wield this committee like a political club and bludgeon Republicans with its findings.
But Pelosi’s cheerleaders in the corporate media took a dim view of the wisdom of Pelosi’s flex.
Even the liberal website POLITICO’s far-left activist Rachael Bade admitted Pelosi blocking Jordan and Banks from serving on the committee played into Republicans’ hands.
Bade wrote in Playbook that Speaker Pelosi’s decision “is going to be a gift to Kevin McCarthy in the long run. He wanted this panel to look partisan and political. Now it’s definitely going to look partisan and political.”
